bar harbor maine

We will be in Bar harbor the end of June next year. Does anyone have any reccomendations for campgrounds? We have a 31 ft 5er.

We stayed at the KOA just after you cross the bridge onto Mt. Desert Island, it is on the right. Did all of our sightseeing with just the tow vehicle.

Hi,

I researched and found a decent campground namely as Somes

Sound View Campground. It’s near to Bar Harbor. This campground is near to Acadia

National Park on beautiful Mount Desert Island. It’s small, peaceful,

well-maintained campground with spectacular ocean and mountain views.

IMO, this is the perfect place for all adventurists.

We stayed here thebarharborcampgroundlast June and really like it. Is was affordable and we had no problem finding a site even though they do not take reservations. It did get crowded around the 4th of July but no problem beore that. The location is perfect as it is on MDI and very close to Bar Harbor. The folks that run it are great. If you like lobster rolls you have to hit the Thirsty Whale in Bar Harbor. Best lobster roll I ever had. Also check out Ben and Bills ice cream. If you want to do some nice tidepooling go to the southeast side of the island to an area called "Wonderland". Lots of neat little sea life there.

This past July we stayed for three weeks in Ellsworth at Hospitality Woods. It was a nice, quiet campgropund. Full hook-ups, but cable tv was out of order.I would stay there again.I have also stayed at the KOA on MDI back in 2004. At the time I had a travel trailer, and was able to park right on the shore line, butthose sites are too small for my fifth wheel. Also, I think the KOA only has pump out service.I saved a fair amount of money by staying farther away, and decided I could buy a lot of lobster dinnersfor the extra driving time to Bar Harbor.

As you are touring, you will want to tour the original Fort Knox [ 42 miles, about 1 hour,from Bar Harbor] and tour the Prenobscot River bridge, which is at Fort Knox. The bridge has a tower you can go up....nominal fee.
