Thinking about taking our week long vacation in the Lancaster/York, PA area this summer. I know there are some factory tours in the area that I think the girls would like. What I am looking for is campground recommendations that are convenient to both. We would prefer to stay in one location with full hookups but don't want the typical tourist-type campground where you are squeezed in slide-out to awning with your neighbors.

check out Elizabethtown/Hershey KOA.... been there. Look at the site map, you will see some sites in the pond area that seem to be spread out more than others.
This campground is pretty central to what you want.....Harrisburg, Lancaster, Hershey and my home...York.
Don't know what week you are talking about, but give me a shout....perhaps we can meeet.
Regards, Walt

We really like Spring Gulch. It's address is New Holland but it really isn't in New Holland on the outskits. If you get a site up the hill they are big and wooded. Away from things but a short drive to get to anything. We had the northeast rally there one year.

Walt,
It would be from July 10th - 16th. What can you tell me about Codorus State ParK? I know the best I would get there is electric, but we have an orthodontist appointment on Monday for one of my girls that may force me to cut costs (found this out yesterday afternoon). The state park would be about 1/2 the cost of Spring Gulch or the KOA.

Chris, I would recommend Guiford Pinchot state park for your traveling to York and Lancaster convenience. I know that sites 244, 245, 246, 247 are BIG [just checked them out for camping with my dogs]. They are available from 7/11 to 7/16, but you must reserve NOW, as they are pet sites and will go fast.
Codorus state park is a good 45 minutes west of York; a little over an hour to Lancaster but, if you want a site there, ask for a site in D loop... these are in the meadow [no trees]...sites D173 to D185. we seem to recall that these are moderately spacious.

Chris, what kind of factory tours do you want to do? If you give some type of a list of places you want to visit, perhaps we can get you more centralized. Codorus State Park is in Hanover. You would have Snyder's of Hanover you could possibly tour. Also be close to Gettysburg if you want to tour the battle field. Come to the East Coast Rally, we will really make your week worth while in July. Randy

Are you referring to the NorthEast rally in April? We can't make that one with the kids in school.
As different possibilities, we were looking at Snyders, Utz, Pfaltzgraff, Harley Davidison, possibly a winery and dairy farm. We're not looking to fill up the entire week with tours, just some to get away from camp once in a while. If it were my choice, we would just spend the entire time around at the campground, but the kids won't be able to go that long without some kind of entertainment.

Chris,
For what you want, I would still recommend Pinchot campground, with the sites I recommended. however, Pinchot does not have a swimming pool, just a swimming area at the lake.I will go to the local tourist beureau and get information on local attractions and tours and send them to you. My e mail is seabeee8@verizon.net.... sendme your address and I will post the information in the next week or so.

Thanks Walt.
Sent you an email with my mailing address.
Once I settle on a location, I'll let you know. I'd invite you for a beer, but we know that is not allowed in PA State Parks .

Chris,
The snail mail with tour brochures and county stuff is on the way.
pfaltzgraf is no more...could not find a farm to view the cows up close here....perhaps, in Lancaster county. lots of wineries, though .

Walt no Pfaltzgraf any more??? When we live in Lancaster the people that came and visited us had to go to that store. I think for a while my first wife had a private parking spot there
