Persistent slide issue
I have a 2014 Lincoln Rushmore and the front drivers side slide has now malfunctioned 4 times. It's always the front motor that has gone out (replaced the motor every time). Has anyone else had the same issue and found a long-term fix?

Is the slide in question a Schwintech?

I'm not sure what type of motor it is. The issue is always the same though, my mechanic says it's the brake on the one motor gives out so it won't stay shut. Then it gets out of alignment and it won't open or close. Seems to me it must be some kind of design or mechanical defect that keeps causing the issue ...

Bro, it would be important to know what make of slideout mechanism (not motor) you have. It sounds like you may have a Schwinek slide. They are the type that have an upper and lower rail on each side of the slide, with teeth on the rail... is that your type?

Thanks, I misread your question. My trailer is in storage or I'd take a pic. I do know (from memory) that there are metal rails along both sides (near the bottom) that have indents. I'm assuming those are for some type of gears teeth. If that's not enough description to determine, I'll have to go to the storage place and take a pic to send to you.

If it has rails that look like these near the top and bottom of the slide, then it is a Schwintek mechanism.
You can synchronize them by holding the switch for a few seconds after the slide reaches the end of travel.

Thank you, but synching is just part of the problem. When I was returning from a trip last week the front part of the slide kept creeping out (while I was traveling) until it was about 8inches out! Thank goodness the other side of the slide stayed tight against the coach or it would have come completely out.
And based on my recollection, that is exactly the slide I have also. You've not had any issues with it?

The motors on the Schwintek slide system are electronically held in place, and become the 'brake' to lock the slide from moving.
You have one or more things happening. Either the power to the slide controller and/or motors is being interrupted or shut off, or the controller or wiring is bad.
You aren't, by any chance, disconnecting the battery during traveling?
Does the slide move in and out properly and smoothly once you have the motors re-synchronized?
I don't think I would be letting whoever it is replacing the motors do it again. Find someone that can troubleshoot the problem. I would be digging hard to find any broken, bad, pinched wires, maybe pull some new wires to the motors from the controller. If the motors are in fact burnt out each time (very odd), then replace the controller.

Also, it is recommended by the manufacture to block the slide out from coming out if you have the power disconnected. You do this by putting 2x4s cut to length, on the top of the slideout, on the inside.

I like the 2x4 suggestion, I will do that. I'll also take your recommendations to the (new) guy I'm having fix it this time. Thanks!

No, I have had no issues with my slides, and the trailer is 7 1/2 years old.

Put some BIG, visible FLAGS on your slide lock 2x4s so you are not trying to extend while locked "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" works, LOL :-)
