Rushmore fears

I have just purchased a new 2013 rushmore jefferson 39je. I feel like we have paid entirely too much, however if it is a good unit I am fine with that. I pick up my unit today, and I am not so excited. I have read numerous reports of these units being poorly built which leads to numerous problems. We are installing a slide hitch just because of all of the lippert frame and pinbox issues. We have always pulled our fifth wheels with a gooseneck adapter and had no problems, but we are trying to avoid the frame separation issues. Never have I been so nervous about a purchase. I did find out that my unit was manufactured on 11/14/12. Some say that matters. Please, please if anyone has any info for me with this new purchase I would be ever so greatful!

I can fully appreciate your apprehension. Rushmore has certainly been in the limelight for their issues, but, what other makes and models are problem free?
I don't know if you have a good PDI list to go by when you pick your's up, but here is a link to one that a lot of the members have used. I suggest you print out a copy and take it with and follow it. Some even video tape their PDI.

It surprises me that you are going thru with the deal if you are that nervous and apprehensive about it.
Regardless, I wish you the best of luck and hope you have a wonderful unit.

Thanks for the PDI advice. I will certainly print that off and take it with me today. I have a bad feeling about it for sure, but we have already signed the papers! We traded our 2006 Coachman Somerset..I think I already miss it!! It was a great unit. We wanted more room...looked at campers one day..our friend is a salesman here locally...don't even think he knew of all of the problems Crossroads has had. At least, I hope he didn't know!

We have been in ours fulltime over 1 1/2 years. If you want to chat? PM me your number. I'm on the west coast. Ours was built 11/28/12

So ours were manufactured relatively close in date. I would love to know how you feel about yours and how good of a unit it has been. Also, how long have you had yours? Thanks in advance for all information!

The number of complaints on here represent only those people that have had problems. I'm sure there are a lot more that don't post on here that have had no problems. It's the old "if it's broke I'll complain and post, if it is fine, there's no reason to post."
Good luck with your new purchase.

Thanks for the well wishes. I spoke with customer service at Lippert today regarding gooseneck adapter. I was told basically that if we used an adapter than it would be a modification, and would not be covered under warranty. So, we are having a slide hitch put in before we pick up. Hopefully tomorrow..

I also find that people have an issue they tell 20 friends, if that have no issues they tell 5 friends, same as they rate places they stay. This is true in most products and services. Human nature I guess.

I would check the tires very carefully as your unit has sat immobile for close to two years. Their manufacture date maybe much older. Tragic to have a blowout(s) on the way home.
Is there any way to back out of your deal due to your apprehension?
Why do you feel it is bad deal? Normally there is a 25-30% markup from dealer cost to the MSRP of a brand new current model year coach. Buying a three model year old unit should give you at least a 45-50% "discount".

Upon inspection and walk through of the unit we found multiple problems. Things were unlevel..seam tape on walls wrinkled and as if once wet...under buckled seam tape I could feel that the wall had a gap behind the tape. The bedroom ac was running when we went in, but I asked to cut it off and close bedroom door to feel living area ac..hardly any air coming from vents and temp rose a degree in 10 minutes after cutting it on and closing bedroom door. Main door wouldn't close properly. It had to be slammed more than once or twice to get it to shut. Was so sad that it was in the shape it was in. Luckily we have a great friend and he allowed us to choose another unit. We chose a bayhill by evergreen. Hoping for the best with this unit!! Sadly, evergreen doesn't have a forum as great as this one. Happy camping to all!!
