Clear coat peeling off

Just inspected our beloved Z-1 after one of the harshest Ontario winters . . .my rig was built in 2011 but purchased 'new' 10 months ago from a local dealer so I'll be seeking a repair under warrantee. It's the clear coat over the aluminium from the two upper most panels that's peeled off in spots . . . . .looking pretty unsightly right now. Is this a common problem I wonder?

I would push to have it completely redone. If it is peeling in spots, it will probably peel in more spots. Good luck. I wouldn't let it sit at the dealer too long before contacting CR directly.

Thanks for the advice Mike,
I'm taking it to the dealer this month (April) for and inspection. They said on the phone they had never heard of such a thing but it has been mentioned in the Zinger forum which has the same front panel issues. In that case, Crossroads replaced the panels so it must be a 'known' problem, . . . . .Eddy

Regardless, it is under warranty, right? Whether they've heard of it or not, it should be covered. Good luck!

I'd copy those forum posts to have on hand as proof there has been a problem in the past.

Wow. I'd definitely insist on it being completely repainted with new decals.

Ohh... no kidding. Common or not, definitely a warranty issue!

peeling top coat

Thanks for the posts guys. The dealer contacted Crossroads based just on my pictures alone which we were very impressed with. Now have three replacement panels on order. After our obvious disappointment, the swift actions on behalf of our dealer have reinstated my faith in the company . . . . .for now!!

Thumbs up Peeling paint

Just got back from the dealer they did a great job in changing my panels on the front. They even found another panel that the screw was reacting to the aluminium and have it on order. My rims were also peeling and they changed them and they are fancier then the ones that were on.Thanks to Crossroads and my dealer Leisuretime rv sales in Hammond river New Brunswick they both stepped up to make this customer happy.:thumb.Cant wait to get out and start enjoying our trailer after this long winter.

Update on the panel 'repair'!.....

So, we picked up our Z-1 trailer last Friday. Repair was completed under manufacturers warrantee due to serious delamination of the top coat on three upper-most front panels. Panels were ordered from the factory and installed at the dealership. As you can see from the attached photos, the white edge strips which have been refitted over the new panels are bent most of the way up and on both sides. As well, excessive and noticibly different culking was applied in a messy and inconsistent manner. The culking has been applied in between the new panels and across the logo which is does not match any of the original panels. We are very disappointed with the result.

As most RV owners, we take great care of our trailer in order to retain its value and ‘new’ looks as much and as long as possible. Our one-year old trailer no longer looks new and the poor result of the repair has depreciated both its resale value and our enjoyment in our use of it considerably.

The repair as it looks today is unsightly and leaves any future owners with the impression major damage has occurred and roughly repaired. We have sent an e-mail of discontent to the dealer and will follow up with a letter. We are not very trusting the dealer is able to fix the problem without risking further damage. Would the Crossroads factory be ultimately responsible?

I don't blame you. That looks horrible. I would call CR and send pics as well. They should step up and make that right.

That's an embarrassment for the repair shop. Definitely contact CR with pictures and a phone call. Don't wait, do it now.

I totally agree. If the repair shop isn't embarrassed, they should be!!
As far as I'm concerned, you can't get in touch with CR soon enough.
Start with a phone call. Find out who to send them to, and immediately follow up with pictures.

Thanks for all your support. Using new corner strips would have made all the difference. I would rather have waited longer the two week's it took instead of getting the results we did. Crossroads sent 17" panels instead of 22" so there was a delay. Lucky we were in no rush! After showing the pictures, the dealer has offered to make "improvements" to the work but it looks so bad, we are both fearful and reluctant do let them ‘have another go’. Short of any other solutions we would be willing to drive down to the factory and make a bit of a vacation of it. Trouble is, we live just shy of 600 miles from Topeca.

I would definitely call CR, send them photos, and find out nearest dealer BESIDES the one who fixed it. They did a hack job...I am surprised you accepted it like that.

Based on typical CR customer service, they will pay someone to fix it properly. Good luck!

Only got it back one day before a paid camping vacation so had little choice but to take it. We expressed our disgust! (love your Zinger BTW) maybe we shouild have jumped to the next model up from Z-1 with fibre glass front ends which seem to come on pretty much all more expensive models. Waiting to hear back from CR with a solution. Hopefully, we'll have a happy ending?

Thanks! We love it as well...it is our 2nd Zinger.

Fiberglass isn't always better. Mainly matter of opinion. I like the look, and it seems easy to clean, but overall I am a big fan of traditional stick & tin construction. If fiberglass delaminates, gets damaged, or you have a leak (which can cause delamination), the only "fix" is usually an entire new wall.

Good luck with the repairs. RV quality sucks as a whole, but even the entry level Z-1 from CR looked like a nice unit when compared at the RV show in January.

Same Issue with peeling paint

Just thought I would chime in since I have the same problem with my 2012 Z1 271BH . My dealer actually suggested contacting CR because this seemed like a very strange issue.CR said they is nothing they can do because I am 2 years out of the manufactures warranty, even though I bought and extended warranty which is good until 2018. I'm not very happy
