Aluminum F150

Has anyone seen the new Ford F150 with the aluminum body?
They are claiming 700# lighter on the F150.

Got this from Ford today. There is an interesting article today in the Dallas Morning News about the truck.

All aluminum body, wider stance, increased the strength of the frame steel from 22% high tensile to 77% high tensile steel with bigger cross sections. Base engine 2.7 tturbo v-6, wider, increased towing and hauling capacity with the 3.5 tt. 2.7 will give increased gas mileage but they did not release any numbers. Dropped the 6.2 engine. High tech interior with 360 outside monitors. Sales will start in the fall.

Stronger is always good - you never know when you might need it...

No but it was amazing to see what happened to that Ford when this 70 foot blue spruce fell on it. While it was dented and bashed, the passenger compartment was essentially uncompromised - somewhat comforting.

Should help most in the parts of the country that salt for snow and ice.

Sticker on mine was $37k and paid $28k, anymore they inflate the MSRP so that is not always the case.

Wow, just heard this via your posting. I bought a 2013 Ford F150 SuperCrew EcoBoost last Nov. Love it. Gas mileage they claimed 15 EPA city and 21 EPA highway. Realistically I get 12.x city and about 17 highway. DOn't know why - maybe the cold weather has something to do with it.

Of course now with your post I wonder if I should have waited? Oh well too late. Plus what will be the gas mileage as well as what will happen when it hails outside? Aluminum is easier to dent than steel.

Where did you purchase yours? We are looking at Ford. What is the tow rating on yours? We are definitely going gas per hubs. Thanks.

As far as denting the aluminum it's the same aluminum used in Humvees. Pretty tough stuff.

I bought it at Chapman Ford in New Jersey, I think it is rated at 9600#. Wanted to go with the HD Payload Whcih would have brought it to 11200#. But you also lose a ton of options with it.

Something I was thinking of, is less weight better when towing?. I see its going to be around 700 lbs lighter then the 2014. Myself I feel a little more comfortable pulling my 5th wheel with my 7900 lb truck. I guess it would be great if I was only buying a truck to be a daily driver and didn't pull anything.

You would still have the PIN weight in the bed of the truck.
