I wonder if it is a regional thing. Don't forget that we live in different states and maybe that's why they're different listings.

Sorry Lloyd: ...By conflicting opinions I meant between the opinions written previous to my post, compared to my post... no confusion intended, lol

I am not sure exactly what the issues were with the ecoBoost engines at that time, remember this was 2-3 yrs ago. I just know the talk around here was a whole lot negative based on what the dealer sales rep relayed to me & stories i've heard from friends/co-workers etc. several of whom had there newer Ecoboosts in the shop for lengthy, service stays. id dont recall the technical details but it didn't sound straight forward.

Also, I live in a part of Canada where temperatures are below -30C in the winter, what works where you live, is often challenged here in numerous categories. Possibly the engines sold here at that time were not the same as those in the US, I donno. I'm not a Ford expert, but when I here from ppl in the business & others about major probs & long shop stays, I am leery about buying into new technology.

My apologies if my opinion is misleading or inaccurate. If one considers more current data & customer feedback, i fully respect the possibility of an entirely different opinion.

regards CC

Those diesels cannot tow what the ecoboost can tow. The ram maxes out at 9210 lbs, and only 1600 lbs payload. Not very impressive for a diesel and not worth the extra cost for a diesel.
The Nissan has good tow capacity but only a 2000 lb payload.

Booth would be good for the mid size rv's I guess.

That's OK. Everybody is entitled to at least one fault.

Drove Ford's for 30+ years at work, I've driven about every model 1/2 to 1 ton 2 & 4 wheel drive from inline sixes to V10s from 1978 to 2011 models & in my opinion I've had enough, but you guys are welcome to them & enjoy.

Amazing. Ford rates the v6 Eco as better tow than diesels in the same truck.
https://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/specifications/towing/

Odd thing the cargo capacity levels. Not sure how they are 1K different.

First, there are no diesels for the F150
Second, the difference in payload is the length of bed, configuration of cab, and if the truck has the heavy duty payload package.

Your rig should be well mated to the Eco-Boost - but agree that the max tow/max payload would be worth the hunt.

FWIW - Coworker has an XLT Max Tow/Payload and it is a 2013. May take some digging, but you can get it. He also has 3.73 rear end. He loves it.

Fellow Canadian,

I have a 3.5eco 3.75ratio FX4 Crew pulling ST270BH. I pulled my trailer from Winnipeg to Kamloops last summer. Made it through the Kicking Horse Pass with no problems. Power is not an issue.

I switch to BFG KO2's just before the trip. Probably not the best tire to pull with but they are firm and hold the weight well. Pulling on a bumpy highway I sometimes feel the truck start to almost oscillate evenly with the bumps. Your 250 might have stiffer suspension for these roads. If you get the 6.5' long bed that should make things better than my setup.

My mileage through the mountains was actually better than pulling through the prairies. Hitting a head wind is a killer. Total trip (4500kms) averaged 25L/100km.
Over the winter(city driving) I averaged 17L/100km.

Sounds like you've done your research on the eco. Hope this helps.

I had heard that the owners manual specifies 93 octane for towing with the ecoboost, is that accurate?

Good Question. I wasn't sure, had never heard that. So I dug out the owners manual.

3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine
"Regular" unleaded gasoline with a pump (R+M)/2 octane rating of 87 is recommended. Some stations offer fuel posted as "Regular" with an octane rating below 87, particularly in high altitude areas. Fuels with octane levels below 87 are not recommended.Premium fuel will provide improved performance and is recommended for severe duty usage such as trailer towing.

Straight from the 2013 owners manual.

I use only regular and have no problems and still get anywhere between 9-12 mpg towing.

That was a footnote on the Ford website before. I don't know if it is still there.

Me to, but I might change that.
