I have a 2007 F350 Dually Long Bed with the B&W Companion hitch. I

am buying my first 5th wheel RV (2005 Crossroads Cruiser). Any suggestions regarding using the

most forward, center, or rear bolt mount pattern for the hitch? I've

read that folks with short beds place the hitch as far rearward as

possible to keep front of RV from hitting the cab. I've also read there

are issues with a long bed regarding the rear of the bed or tailgate

hitting the rear of the RV. What bolt pattern did you use for Companion

hitch in a long bed truck</span>? Any other issues to be concerned with? Hope this makes sense and thanks in advance for help. Roy

My first thought would be the rear bolt holes so a guy would give himself as much clearance as possible when the tailgate is down.A F350 long bed I don't think a few inches one way or the other will make a significant difference, ( I may be wrong). You could always go back and change it if you encounter problems couldn't you, just my 2 cents.

I would add my 2cents and say place the pin of the fiver just forward (1/2 - 1") of the rear axle. That position gives you the best ride and least amount of any sway that you might encounter.

Since you have a long bed you would want to place the hitch so it is over or just forward for the rear axle centerline.

I have my b/w on the forward holes where the pin is in front of the axle, there are no clearance problems

Thanks for replies so far. As I said, I used the "center" bolt holes and

it placed the hitch latch pin squarely over the center of tires/axle.

Should I move the bolts to the rear holes (closest to tailgate) which

will move the hitch forward or just leave it as is and see how it works?

Also, I also have it mounted on top of a Rugged bed-liner. This one

came with the two bolt holes in the post so the bottom hole is used with

a liner installed and the top one is used without a liner. Again, never

towed a 5th wheel thus are ignorant as to how this will work.

OK I went andlooked at mine again. I have it in the Center position which put it over the axle. I would not want the hitch behind the axle. I have pulled with it several years in this position and have never had a problem and it pulls well. I really like the hitch. I am not sure what a rugged bed liner is, if it is the plastic one that raises the hitch up 1/2 or so I would not feel conformable with the hitch on top of the bed liner. I would want the rails directly on the truck bed. I have had best luck torquing the top bolt down 1st at the recommend torque, which I think is 40-45 foot lbs, the tightning up the u-bolts. This makes the hitch set level on the bed and takes out any movement of the hitch.

According to what I have read and heard, you should never bolt a 5er hitch onto a plastic/raised rib bedliner. You should either remove it or cut out sections so that the hitch is totally flat on the stock bed floor.Spray in liners (Line-X, etc) are OK.

We have a B&amp;W companion hitch on our 02 F250 7.3 diesel. We havea bedlinerwith the hitch on top of the bedliner. Never had a problem, hauling horses with the B&amp;W gooseneck for 3 years and since 05 hauling our Cruiser. We have hauled all over the mountains in Montana, Wyoming, etc. We have over 20,000 miles pulled with this hitch and the Cruiser. Love this hitch.

Thanks for replies, advise, etc. We have used the Companion several times now with bed-liner and haven't noticed any issues. As others have stated; we really like and appreciate the convenience, ease of use, etc. of this hitch system.
