Dealer offering two hitches

Which one is better? Are they both junk? Dealer said I can bring my own, but they won't let me tow off the lot without a WDH.

The two hitches we have are the Centerline from Husky $699 that is the one I suggest. The next is the Equal-I-Zer hitch and it is $899.

See sig for Vehicles being discussed.

First off welcome and congratulations on your new trailer. Either hitch in my opinion is a good quality hitch, so i guess it comes down to what you really want to pay. Just make sure that you have a good quality WHD because again in my opinion it will make a big difference when towing.

Yes both are WHD with sway control. Sorry for not clarifying that better.

We have a Reese round bar weight distribution sway control hitch. We love it. The system is proactive. The trailer is never "allowed" to begin to sway because of the cams. It pretty much makes the truck/trailer like one vehicle. We have been in some fierce winds, driven over major mountain passes in Colorado and have had zero problems.

Regardless of what hitch you choose, your dealer is way too expensive. Too expensive by about $400 on the Equalizer.

Look into the Andersen hitch too. A friend has one and loves it. If I ever have $450 laying around that I don't need for something else, that's what I'll be getting.

Knowing the trailer I have and being a noob at all of this, which hitch should I get? I am OK with getting elsewhere, he says I just have to pay the shop hourly rate for them to install.

If you are comfortable using a few wrenches and can follow written directions, then the website Mark posted should talk you right thru installing one yourself.
If that's not the case, then don't be afraid to take it in to the dealer for them to do it.

I am sure I can do it no problem, so I know we are not supposed to talk numbers on here but will try with % of cost.

They were having a 'blowout' sale and discounted the TT 29%, I went and asked for another 1K off of that, they said no but gave me 682.00 off, which put my total 'discount' at 31% essentially paying for the hitch.

Mods if this is too much detail, I am fine cleaning it up, just let me know. I guess I am just saying if I get the cheap hitch basically paying 20.00 for it after the 682.00 discount. But would rather put it elsewhere.

I only have experience with the equalizer hitch. Also I never towed anything before I got this TT. I was very concerned about issues, but have never had a scare or concern for almost 2 years.

Equalizer is top notch But the dealer is WAY over priced. This is a crooked trick dealers do.....pretending to give a discount but jacking up the price of things like the hitch. Shop around and buy your hitch set up elsewhere. Also, if the dealer is playing this game now watch out when you need an y service.

I only have experience with an Equal-i-zer hitch and have had no problems with it. Does exactly what it was designed to do. I also bought the bracket jackets from Amazon earlier this year, definitely cut down on the noise level.

Being noobies a year ago, I bought mine from the stealer and had them set it up while I supervised. It didn't look difficult, but getting it level and all the little adjustments they made, it took them about 45 mins to get it all right. Additionally, it was approx 95 degrees out when they did it.

Anything you buy from the stealership is going to priced higher than you can get it from other places. I, like the OP got an outstanding deal on my TT and didn't mind paying what they asked for the hitch installed.
Here's the link to Equal-I-zer'as site: Equal-i-zer Hitches : Equal-i-zer Hitch Store

Good luck and happy camping!!

Would I get the 600, 1000, or 1200? It would make since for 1000, because actual trailer weight is 6346 lbs, GVWR is 7664 so I can put right at 1300 lbs if I am correct. So given the weight of the trailer fully loaded I would think the 7664 GVWR would put the max tongue at 1150 lbs if I use the max average of 13-15%?

What say you experts?

I'm no expert, I have a 1000, my TT is 7342 dry. Use this tool on the equal-I-zer site as a guide.

I like this site, because it told me, in hindsight, that CW did indeed sell me the right size.

knowing that you will probably have 1300lbs of stuff over the dry weight, and average toung weight is 12-13%. I would go with the 1200lb hitch. Also I am a big E-qual-izer fan, because you do not have to remove any anti-sway device before backing up.
