Equalizer -L brackets

Hi
To anyone who has the "Equlizer" hitch. Regarding the "L" brackets that wrap around the tension bars on the trailer.
It occurred to me that if one of those became lost/broken/stolen, I'd be out of luck in terms of towing.
I've already bought dupe cotter pins, Hitch pins and Clevis pins.

What is the actual name of that bracket anyway, I looked on Amazon but couldn't find it.
Anyone know?

Thanks!
mike

They are called L-pins and you can get them direct from Equalizer: Equalizer Parts
The part number is 95-01-9430, $15.25 for a pair of the *NEW* Snap L-pin.

It's supposed to quite some of the creaking and poping noises. I'vs contacted the sales manager at Equalizer and be said most customers like them, we'll see. He also said that there may be a small reduction in sway control because you don't have the friction of that metal to metal contact. I was surprised to learn that a lot of the noise actually comes from the hitch head, the sockets the spring bars slide in to. Need to keep those greased up pretty good apparently.

I just ordered the bracket jackets and a double set of replacement pins and brackets. Curious to see how the jackets work.

The 'jackets' make a huge difference. But you still need to grease the ball and the top and bottom of the 2 moving parts on the head (that the bars go into). Not too much ,just enough not to make a mess.
There is enough tongue weight ,especially after loading the front compartment and adding 2nd battey to tongue, that you will not notice any sway differnce.

The bracket jackets don't fit with the redesigned pin.

I don't really care so much about the noise, so if that's all the bracket Jacket does I will probably pass. Unless they also help to keep the L bracket from falling off.
I don't know, but looking at the casual way the L bracket is just sitting there, it seems with enough rattling, it might actually come off. I'm probably just being paranoid though.

As far as lubrication for the noise, just so I'm clear. The part you lubricate is the part of the hitch that is ON the truck and not on the trailer, correct? Obviously the ball head is on the truck, but I'm talking about where the tension bars connect.

Lastly, what to lubricate it with?

Thanks!
Mike

1st , the jackets cannot come off unless you take the bar off and manually twist them off.
2nd, just use a basic white grease , but anything will work . and ,yes it is the 2 square parts that are bolted to the hitch head that goes into the truck sleeve. With the bars attached you can swing the bars way out and put a small dab of grease on the upper and lower points of the square part that has paint removed. That is were the friction points are .

Why not use the jackets ? the noise is annoying.

I just ordered a spare set of L brackets. It said on the Equalizer site that the Jackets don't fit the "new" L brackets. I think the "new" ones are the ones with the swing over lock, which I currently have.
I kind of like the noise, makes me know that everything is working as it should!

Chassis grease will work too. Or the grease you use on the ball.

Hey guys, I just got off the phone with Jason at Progress Mfg (who manufactures the hitch and all accessories), and the statement above is not necessarily correct.

Jason assured me that the bracket jackets WILL fit the redesigned snap L pin ONLY if you order from Equalizerhitch.com store. He said the ones out there on Amazon.com probably don't fit b/c they are designed for the older style pin.

I was concerned b/c I ordered the jackets from Equalizers website last night and wanted to catch the order before shipping. He told me not to worry and apologized for any lack of information. He admitted they didn't do a good job after the re-design b/c they kept the same packaging and number. They are in the process of changing this now along with a overhaul of the website. The guy was real nice and called me back right away. Anyone has any questions about their products, don't hesitate to call or email him. This is twice now he has expeditiously addressed my concerns. Kudos.

If my previous post/response to your statement sounded a little harsh, I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to offend you, just clarify.

Thumbs up Thanks

That actually answered my question as I had purchased the jackets elsewhere and they don't fit.

No worries, thanks for calling I ordered mine directly from equalizer and they don't fit with the new pin my hitch came with. I didn't bother to complain about it but maybe I will now.

Now you have me wondering again. Well, one way to find out and that's to wait for it to arrive.

I just got my jackets in the mail yesterday and the shape is totally different than what they show online at their store. The front part there the bracket pin drops down through the L bracket is narrower than the rear, where the spring bar sits. This will allow the new snap L pin to fold down and work properly. I think you should call that Jason at Progress and get yours swapped out.
