Hit the scales

We took our 5er out to my in-laws property this past weekend so we stopped by the CAT scale to see where we are as far as weight. Truck was our normal camping load: 4 passengers (me, wife, son 13, daughter 10), B & W Compainion, full tank of fuel, and trailer was setup how we've been camping so far, just basic gear and I'm sure it will get a little heavier as we collect more gear. Looking to have advice to ensure I'm within the weight limits of my 2002 2500HD, and any positive/helpful advice as to my current configuration. If any other information is needed let me know and I'll gather it. Thanks, Steven

Truck: 2002 CCSB 2500HD 6.6 DMax
Steer Axle: 4400
Drive Axle: 3260
Gross Weight: 7660

5er: 2015 Longhorn Rezerve 36DB
Steer Axle: 4360
Drive Axle: 5460
Trailer Axle: 9120
Gross Weight: 18940

Info on driver door:
GVWR: 9200
GAWR Front: 4670
GAWR Rear: 6084

By my understanding of these numbers I believe I'm currently well under the trucks GAWR front and rear ratings by 310 front and 624 rear, but unfortunately it looks like I'm over the trucks GVWR by 620.

By your numbers here, without the trailer you have 1540 lbs available payload (9200-7660 lbs). You have 2824 lbs available on your rear axle (6084-3260).

Your 5er weighs 11280 lbs. You have a pin weight weight of 2160 lbs.

Loaded the truck weighs 9820 so yes you are over your payload by 620 lbs. You are under your rear axle rating by 621 lbs. Now what you do with this info is entirely up to you. Some will say if it is 1 lb over gvwr, sell it and upgrade the truck. Others will say you are under RAWR so if it handles ok, then drive on. we upgraded our f250 prior to buying our 5er simply because we knew we only had a 1500 lb payload and didn't want to be limited when shopping.

I calculate your pin percentage at 19%.

2160/11280=.191

Typically 5th wheels tow best at 25% but many do OK at 20%.

If the trailer does well with out chucking you may be OK.

There are thousands of trucks pulling 5th wheels that are over the GVWR more than you are and seem to be doing OK.

You did not give us the tire ratings of the truck or trailer. Make sure you do not exceed those ratings.

Also how level is the trailer. If it is not level suggest you get individual axle weights on the trailer.

Check how much suspension is left between the rear axle rubber stops and the axle. If there is evidence that you have been hitting the stops you may need air bags.

Thanks for the inputs. The trailer tows very well and the truck handles it easily. There's no bouncing and chucking at all, but I attribute that to the Firestone ride rite airbags I installed prior to buying the trailer. I believe if I relied on just the factory 2500HD spring pack I'd be hating life while loaded. I've found that with 65 lbs in each bag the setup rides very nice.

As far as tire rating they are as follows:
Truck: 3640 @ 65 psi
5er: 3520 @ 80 psi
