Looking to get a new TV, and need advice
Hello all:
I have a 2015 ST240BH that I've been towing with an 02 Suburban for the last year. Based on the sage advice from this forum, I have strategically upgraded it and it does fine. But as a 2002, it could blow tomorrow... So I'm considering another upgrade, this time to a new TV.
I've decided to go with a Chevy Silverado. I think I've eliminated the 2500HD because I think its more truck than I need for my TT. So I'm now looking at a 1500, which has more options than my dog has fleas! Here's where I'm at, please review and tell me if toy think its enough truck, or if I should go bigger...
1) 2017 Silverado 1500 LT, 2 Wheel drive, Crew Cab, standard bed
2) Ecotec 5.3 L V8 with max towing package, 3.42 Axle ratio, 8 speed auto transmission
My concerns:
1) will the 5.3L w/3.42 axle ratio do the job, or do I need the 6.2L w/3.42?
Is the 3.42 AR good enough for hills, or do I need to spring for the 3.73?
I have a million other questions, but I'll wait to see what you have to say. Bottom line is I want to climb the continental divid on I-70 from both sides, and not worry about making it easily and safely.

Here's the latest towing guide. Compare your Rv to ratings for the truck. Make sure you follow up on the codes that are listed.

I pull a ST25RB with a 2014 Silverado. Have virtually the same setup as you described (4x4 crew cab 5.3L w 3.42 gear) with absolutely no issues to date. Other than short trips around Ontario, I have pulled 4x now from Ontario to Florida and back and once to Martinsville, Virginia. Love the truck, both pulling and as a daily driver. You will have the added benefit of 8 speed vs my 6 speed tranny. I also installed timbrens to get rid of the rear end squat when the weight distribution bars are not installed.

Looking to get a new TV, and need advice - UPDATE
Well, a slight change of plans. After further consideration and based on comments from a Chevy Owners forum, I decided to go back to the 2500HD , gas engine. I don't know about other parts of the country, but here in California finding a 2500 HD, either gas or diesel, is harder than finding an honest politician in Congress.
So on Wednesday of this past week I placed an order for a 2017 Silverado Crew Cab, 2WD, LTZ, gas engine Truck
We have a trip planned at the end of July, and I'm hoping it will come in in time for that trip, but it's a longshot I think. At any rate, while I love my 02 suburban, after 16 years of loyal service it's almost time to retire it. Guess the only thing left to do now is to update my signature block in a few weeks!

You will love it , a bit more than we actually need for our trailers but makes a big difference.

Granted I tow a slightly bigger rig, but when I stepped up from the 1500 Sub to the 2500 Yukon XL, I was much more confident in how it towed. Having the 4.10 rear probably played a role in that too!! Didn't like the reduced mpg when not towing, but actually got better than the 1500 when fully loaded with the trailer etc. I'm sure you will be very happy with it.

The added bonus of going to the 2500 is that you are ready when it comes to time to upgrade campers. The biggest advantage with diesel now days seem to be the exhaust brake (which I swear by) and the additional torque. Gas motors have come a long way.

sounds like u made your choice of vehicle, if you can afford it, diesel is the way to go when towing....... difference is night and day
