My ball is being eaten.

Noticed today my trailer ball has groves worn in the front top edge. Dealer said I shouldn't grease the ball but I'm not so sure after seeing my ball being eaten. Anysuggestions, tips or pointers?

It would not hurt I used to. But I carried spray brake cleaner and cleaned the ball off when I disconnected

Who do you want to believe ? An actual hitch manufacturer, a minimum wage shop flunky,

or a salesperson who will tell you any BS that comes to mind.



We had an acquaintance that before they worked in sales at an RV place was pretty straightforward, after a few years in commission only sales, she would lie with the best of them.



We also had the minimum wage shop flunky tell us that the equipment that Crossroads delivers with the trailers, ie: emergency slide crank, and something else. that we had to order that and pay for it ourselves.



Anymore, I never believe anything anyone tells me, I check for myself.Edited by: drcook

I always greased mine and then cleaned it off after each trip. I also greased the bars where they sat in the socket. I know you don't grease U-Haul trailer balls since that is the ground connection but a TT is a different animal.

OK grease it is. I may buy a new ball also since this one doesn't look so good to me.

It is probably better to be on the safe side and get the new ball. I would grease it. I don't grease the whole thing just a little on the top and just at the top edges as well and lightly.

I didnt grease kine at first either as I was told that it didnt hurt it.



Then after hearing it creak and groan and noticing slight groving, I started to grease mine with axle grease. That stopped the creaking and groaning and you can also just put a cup over it or a ball protector to keep the grease from getting all over everything.



Mine goes into a tongue box that I mounted on the front of my trailer between the battery box and tongue jack. So it is in there all by itself so I dont bother cleaning it but once in a while as it is the only thing in the box along with the bars.

I greased mine for years. eliminates the groaning during turning. When you get to the camp ground and unhook, take a small plastic bag and cover the ball to keep from getting grease on passerbys clothes.

I can't think of any reason not to grease it. Even Uhaul's grounded ball makes metel to metal with grease. Actually I don't even byt that sinde ground is wired, even with a 4-way plug.

I always greased mine when I had a TT. I put a tennis ball on it when not hooked up. When the tennis ball got dirty, I tossed it and put on another. The dog didn't like giving up her ball, but she got over it.
