Reese WDH

I have an older Reese round bar WDH that I used on my old Jayco 27bh and it has 800# round bars on it. I just purchased a 2014 Sunset Trail Reserve 30RE and was wondering if I could just purchase 1000# bars and add the dual cams to it? And would 1000# bars be enough for the new trailer? Gross on new trailer is 9950# empty is 6275#

TIA

Just a note the shank is rated at 12000# and head is rated for 1000#

Congrats on your new 30RE. We bought one last year and have the Reese dual cam set-up. I have the 1000lb bars and I think a 12000lb shank. Have had no problems with the set-up. You should be able to purchase the dual cams/brackets/chains by themselves. As far as performance, no trailer sway. I do get the "squirrelly" feel when a semi passes me or a severe crosswind. I am going to upgrade my TV tires to load range E (from LT load range C). Hopefully this will help a bit.

I don't think new bars will fit a Reese head thats over 3 years old. If thats the case it would be cheaper to buy a complete DC hitch. You can call Reese to find out for sure.

if the Reese says the bars will fit, make sure your platform, shank and ball are all rated heavy enough for that TT. actually though, 1000 lbs will not be enough for that TT. your dry weight is 7232, which going by the average amount people add to a TT (1000-1500 lbs) your TT will probably weigh between 8200-8700 lbs loaded. goal tongue weight should be 13-15% of loaded weight. An RE Floorplan will end up loading heavy on the tongue. 15% of 8700 lbs is 1305 lbs. I would go with 1400 lb bars. IIRC the round bars don't go that heavy so you will need to move to a trunnion bar. Reese does not make a 1400 lb trunnions but they do make a 1500 lbs trunnions in the strait line hitch (very similar to Reese dual cam) or you could go with 1400 lb equal-I-zer.

Just went through something similar on my new ST320BH, had the Reese setup with 800lb bars from our Jayco. Found during install that they were too light and actually a little bent from previous trailer. Ended up just getting a whole new Reese Cam setup with 1200lb bars, as the bars were almost as much as the whole setup (since camping world installs anything new for $40) and the bars were special order too..

Ended up ordering the Blue Ox setup. Should be here in a few days.
I did consult customer service with my TT specs and they said the 1000# bars. I was gonna get the 1500# bars originally. Hopefully it works out.
Thanks for all the help.
