I ran across this apparently unbiased article about used pickup trucks...

Is there a truck made that isn't on that list?

If you don't consider the particular years he is referring to, there probably isn't a brand that's not included.

I would add the 2005 Ford F-250 6.0l diesel to this list. 5 turbo rebuilds in the first 60K miles of ownership. Sold it for a 2015 F-250 SD 4X4 6.7l. Love the 2015 - no issues at all!!!

With 25k shares, and the crap quality of the blog, I would have expected a longer list of people blasting him in the comments. Anyone with a computer can present themselves as an expert on a topic.

Any article that has a slide show format is instantly suspect in my opinion.

Diesels

I've been doing some reading. I'd like to get a 3/4 ton diesel. I read that any diesel made after 2014 is relatively problem free, or at least compared to their predecessors. The cost of trucks is just insane though. I'd like to find a good used 3/4 ton diesel, 4X4 that hasn't been used to plow. Might have to sell my house to buy one. Then there is the registration and insurance.

Also read that 3/4 ton diesels get about the same mileage as my Volvo XC60, which is a small SUV. Might as well drive a truck.

The Duramax LML came out in 2011. Ford started making its 6.7L diesel in 2011, but I think it took a couple years to iron the problems. I'm not sure when Dodge started using its current diesel. I think all of the current diesels are pretty reliable.

I used cargurus.com to find mine. That new will be hard but not impossible. What do you want, low miles, real new, low price? I see plenty in NH for <$30k and some down in the low $20s. but you have to give something to get the price that low. Cant get all three. I like my Dodge, it is 2012. It is 1 step up from a full on work truck (my sacrifice to get the truck). My only complaint is it has the headshake. That con be controlled, but is a major design flaw. I would buy it again.

I'm for one not a fan of the need to use DEF fluid in your rig. I'll keep my 05 than you ...

You certainly get a lower mph with a diesel engine that using DEF. I saw a big drop from my '05 F250 to my '15 F250. Thank you, but no thank you EPA and Cal ARB.

So far in 95k miles haven't noticed any speed or mileage reduction from DEF use, actually much better power & mileage than my '05. Mine will use 2-2.5 gallons in 3000-3500 miles so not much to worry about other than on GM models it's not a very handy fill location, fortunately don't have to do it often.

I now have about 16K miles on my '15. I found I'm also using about 2.5 gallons of DEF every 3K miles.
