Adding Slide toppers to Cameo 5th wheel

Has anyone added slide toppers to a Cameo fifth wheel? I have a 2020 3801RK and I am adding them to the four slides. Before I start screwing in the topper mounting brackets to the slide I wanted to make sure there is ample material so I don't end up with the self tappers screwing into just the fiberglass.

I plan to place the topper mount brackets flush up against the bottom corner of the slide out room flange, my concern is, is there anything to attach to, if not I'll need to attach them to the slide out room flange.

I contacted Crossroads, they do not have any drawings

Thanks in advance.

If you don't get any feedback here, give etrailer a call. You might get some help there.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

On my previous camper (a Rockwood) they were attached to the slide out wall just inside the flanges. I would.not think that the flanges would be strong enough and eventually, you'll have problems (not to mention the fact that the screws would hit the wall when the slide is in).

Found this photo..

Pictures of slideout with frost lines

I took these pictures of the frost lines on the slideout / side, as you can see there are frost lines where the substructure studs are located. I'm hope these are stud's lol.

If you plan on drilling holes, I suggest getting a stud finder. I know I would feel better relying on what that told me.

Looks good to me!! Don't forget the Butyl tape! Put a nice thick layer between the bracket and the wall.

One down.

Not a difficult job, took me longer to verify the attachment points than to install it.

Here is a picture of the finished job.

Looks good on there. You are going to appreciate those slide toppers in many different situations.

Now if you could put the make, model, and year of your rig in your signature, we would all know what you are asking about.

I installed toppers to my Crossroads Fifth Wheeler and mounted the topper 4” above the slide when closed. The plates that hold the topper to the slide outs were mounted right below the trim.

I needed to add a slide topper to our Sunset Trails 291RK. First for debris avoidance but also in last camping trip the site was not level side-side and it rained and leaked. I was like the 7 dwarves that 6 received a prize from Publisher's Clearing House- and one was NOT Happy! I planed to do it anyway. As mentioned, a stud finder showed something on edges and logic would dictate a frame member should be on the edge (logic?.... Yeah well a discussion for another time perhaps). I took it to a local reputable dealer and had them put it on. I liked it because
1) it made the wofe very happy
2) I didn't have to do it
3) it freed my time to work on other things on "the list"
4) did I mention opw happy it made the wife that I farmed out work instead of doing it myself? ;+D
Big rain yesterday and last night- no leaks. Now Happy has his prize too.

Yeah..I'm thinking I'll invest in some in the near future. I'm surprised they don't come from the factory with them.

I already miss them and I haven't even camped in this new trailer yet.

2nd topper installed.

Installed the second one, 2 of 4. Once you get the hang of it, it is easy and only takes about an hour and a half. I also sealed the screw holes that attached the hardware with silicone and used high quality butyl tape on the slide brackets and topper rails.

You're getting pretty good at that. Now I know who to call when it comes time for me to do a replacement.

J Andring; did you use a stud finder to find the aluminum studs or did you go by the frost lines?

I ultimately used a stud finder, but the frost lines were correct. I wanted to make sure there were studs there. Crossroads was no help, they won't let you have a copy of the drawings, I guess that is understandable. If anyone plans on installing them yourself just be careful not to strip the stud / fasteners, the stud is very thin. I ran them up with a screw gun on a low setting then hand tightened the screws.
