12V AGM BATTERY vs LEAD BATTERY

Have to replace my battery this year and was wondering which one to pick.

The one I presently have is a lead 12vdc Part 27DC, 675 CCA, 845 CA and 185RC.

There seems to be lots of makes and models of battery on the market and was wondering whether the AGM type is a better battery.

Now I just have to figure out the Cranking Amp info to get the best bang for my buck.

Please don't look at cranking amps unless your starting engines. ah(amp hours) are what your looking for.
I got rid of the battery box ands went to 100ah 12v deep cycle security battery.
I actually ran 2 last year and they were awesome. they are AGM batteries, and easy to get in Canada.

Agree!
CCA is Cold Cranking Amps, CA is Cranking Amps which is what you'd want for your truck, but unless you have a generator built in, which probably has a dedicated starting battery, you won't be cranking anything.
Group 27 or 31 deep cycle batteries with the most Ah you can get.
If you go with AGM be sure your convertor is equipped the charge them properly.

Haven't seen the Ah on a battery except for my cordless drill. I take it that it means Amp Hours and 100+ Ah is the best way to go.

Travelin Texans, you mentioned about my converter set up to charge an AGM type battery. My old one charged from the truck/trailer hook-up when driving and then by electric hook-up through the converter when in a campground.

Is there something else I should be adding in-line to charge the AGM battery.

Here are a couple of quotes from manufacturers:

The charging voltages are the same as for any standard battery — no
need for any special adjustments or problems with incompatible chargers
or charge controls. And, since the internal resistance is extremely low,
there is almost no heating of the battery even under heavy charge and
discharge currents. The Concorde (and most AGM) batteries have no charge
or discharge current limits.
The AGM battery has an extremely low internal electrical resistance. This, combined
with faster acid migration, allows the AGM batteries to deliver and absorb higher rates of
amperage than other sealed batteries during discharging and charging. In addition, AGM
technology batteries can be charged at normal lead-acid regulated charging voltages,
therefore, it is not necessary to recalibrate charging systems or purchase special chargers.

Not something you need to add, but my convertor had a different setting for AGM & lead acid batteries, just read the manual for your convertor to be sure.

Your converter/ charger will charge leas-acid/AGM batteries just fine.
AGM will charge a little slower (or at least mine did).

If you can afford it go with security batteries. They are sealed and you can get them for 100ah rating. Here in SK they were 280.00 per battery.

This year I see sask battery has them for 250.00. But they last a lot longer than the common advertised deep-cycle.

Note: if amp-hours are not listed in the specs of a battery then chances are its not a good deep cycle. It should be listed right after 12 volts.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to make some phone calls around Winnipeg - Canadian Tire, Prairie Battery, Battery Man etc and see what they have. At least now I have an idea what I will be talking about.
