Under sink leak

Noticed a leak coming from my front main door last fall so I haven't had water connected all winter do to freezing Temps. So I just opened underneath the sink close to the main front entrance. What is the contraption? And why does it have a line running from it not connected to anything?

If you post the make, model, and year of your unit in your signature, people will know what you have and maybe able to answer you.
A picture would help also.

Hello And Welcome!

As Lloyd stated we need more information to help you.

Water leak and a hose not connected from some "contraption" sounds like --- and this is only a guess based on the information --- the water pump. A picture would also help.

If it's near the water pump, it could be you winterizing hose for the anti-freeze.
