I've never owned before and would be looking to use this as a residence all year round in northern Illinois. Love the look of the Z-1 series, but have no clue if this could stand up to conditions.

Anyone with experience, advice, whatever I'd love to hear it. Complete newbie who takes care of elderly grandparent and just needs some 'me' space instead of in her house! =) Thanks

my wife did this when her dad was very ill and she needed some space as her dad kept the house 90 degrees so we put the camper near the home. We winterized it and she showered and got water from the home. Even though we enclosed the bottom with hay bales the little water undrained in the black water tank froze so if she was using it or the gray water tank it would have cracked for sure. The furnace ran continually and we had a big tank brought in for propane from a local supplier who filled it every few weeks (costly). The inside windows were covered with frost most of the time. Camper is not a four season......if yours is things might be different and that camper was three back in line from what we have now and our new one although tanks are heated is not meant for winter camping. I would not have changed a thing as for the caring for dad part but the camper was not made for Northern Pennsylvania normal winters. It can work but you must understand the limitations and possible hurt being done to lessen the life of your camping unit.

Northern Ill.....probably not. You could do some of the items mentioned in the above post, but when the temps really get cold to around zero, things are going to freeze. I have camped in my cruiser to temps down in mid to lower 20's, without an issue for a few nights. However, I do have extra insulation over my dual pane windows and ran an electric heater to minimize propane usage. There are other manufactures that claim to have a four season coach, but you will also pay for that rating as well.

Thanks to both of you. I had a feeling that was the case and really appreciate the input. Guess it's maybe time to finish the basement here instead then. sigh I really like the thought of the trailer and love this line.

If it is a winter like we just had.....YES.
If it will be a winter like we normally have......NO.

Hey you can always take it south for a while in the winter like we do. That is, if your in a position to get away.
