Looking to buy an '04 Cruiser 27RL

Hey everybody,

I'm going to look at a 2004 27RL Cruiser this week. Are there any major issues I should be concerned with? Anything to pay attention to in particular? I heard something about that year having bad axles. The dealer is asking $8k which seems cheap for my area..

Thanks!!

Look for water stains all over. I think the price is good. Look over frame and axles, and any delamation.

Yes, there were some bad axles, but most were replaced or adjusted. Check the date code on the tires, if they are brand new, then you can't really know if the axles are OK. But adjusting them at a good axle shop is less than $200. If they are older than 1 year and wear seems balanced, then axles are OK. If the tires are more than 3 yrs old, they should be replaced for your safety.

There was a frame issue, really the outriggers, which are the thin, triangular braces that extend from the main frame and support the outside walls. Welds will break or the outrigger will develop a hairline crack at a 45 degree angle starting at the upper corner of the outrigger. You will need to wipe dirt off the outrigger and a flashlight to do a good inspection. Failure allows the walls to sag a small amount. EZ fix to weld thicker steel onto the existing outrigger and not very expensive.

Otherwise, these units were well built and you just need to inspect for excessive wear and tear or inadequate maintenance.

Sold my '04 29RK in 2011 for $12k and helped another forum member buy one recently, he paid more than $12k. So, if the unit is really in good condition, then the price sounds good.

I had a 2004 CR 27RK, When looking at it I noticed that the brake wiring looked different. I asked the person who was selling said the axles where replaced. No problem and got it that night. Owned it two years and was great camper. sounds like a great price.

Thanks for all the help! I went and gave it a good look over today. All looked good...no leaks, no outrigger cracks, new axles, new hardwood floors and fairly fresh tires. Got it out the door for $7900! I'm only 26 so I'm sure this will be my first of many Cruisers. Thanks again!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate it! So far I love this rig! The previous owners (original owners) were an elderly couple who appeared to have taken great care of it. The only blemish on the entire unit are some scuff marks in the hardwood flooring from the slide. I cannot wait for warm weather!! Unfortunately I made the mistake of looking through some brand new units at the dealer yesterday....now I'm drooling over those!
