I didn't use silicone, but could not remember the name of the clear sealant I used when typing the comment. Should have just said clear sealant but was lazy, lol...

They extend about 4.5", which looks to be a little less than the awning above them.
They mount with 8 screws and you will seal around them with silicone. No worries! They won't fall off!
