John, these are the boxes our batteries are mounted in. The straps keep the lids on tight.

Both our battery boxes have straps that go around...

Both our battery boxes have straps that go around the box and keep the covers on tight. As far as the venting I would not worry about it to much unless you start smelling battery gases in the storage...
