you can avoid Wash. D.C by taking I83s from Harrisburg, to I695 around Baltimore, connecting to I97, then rte 3 connecting to rte 301 and get I95 just north of Richmond, VA.

Feyetteville/Wade KOA is very nice, with level pull throughs.

Also, Florence KOA in Florence, SC....never stayed there, but, historically, KOA's are pretty good.
