That is true but they can't stabilize if they are loose. You can see mine back themselves off.

Mine are doing the same thing. 2017 Sunset Trail. I can take the crank off and watch it slowly back the screw off. I haven't had a chance to try it yet but I hope cleaning the grease off the friction...
