Leaking bedroom slide

We have a very slight (but still a nuisance) leak on the curb side when the bedroom slide is out. It doesn't leak all the time, just when the rain comes from the rear. I can see a slight light leak (implying a seal not tight) on both sides but only the rear (left from the inside) leak. I've looked a this and need to do more but at this time, I can't see a good reason for this to leak.



I'd take suggestions on how to approach this one.

Check the corners of the seals. They often get stiff and will not flap together. If the seals are hard and not pliable, it time for new ones.

I always watch the flappers when moving the the slide in or out to make sure they flip al the way in the correct direction/position. If nthey don't, I stop the slide and help them get into the right position.
Not saying that is your problem tho.

Isn't there a difference in the "seals" and the "wipers" or flappers?

I am under the impression that the wipers are to aid in deflecting rain but mostly to prevent debris from being drawn into the seals. If water is coming in when the slides are out, I would be looking for gaps or tears in the internal sealing surfaces.

I agree that it sounds like the seals may need replacing. Just run the slide in to check the seals on the backside of the slide trim. They seal when the slide is out. Also check on the inside with the slide out the distance between the slide and the wall when out to see if they are the same on both sides. May just need a adjustment.

I thought I'd post up my results on the leak. Lloyd called it but the seal issue was on the top. The seal didn't flip out when the slide came out so there was a 6-8" section that basically routed water inside. I got up there and flipped it correctly while I was doing another repair (replacing the top "D" seal).

Heavy rains here today in central Florida & no leaks so I think I got this one fixed.

Now to do the top seals on the other 3 slides.

It was quite a few years back I notice that the top flapper seal wasn't always flipping the way it was suppose to. So I made it a ritual to always check it when I was moving the slide either in, or out. Then I added the side flappers to the ritual.
I suppose some day I will have to replace them, but they still seem to be doing the job.

I'm going to have to add that to my setup routine as well. It would be a bit easier if I didn't have to unload the front storage to get my ladder out.

I have a little 2 ft. step ladder I always carry in the back of the truck. It's just the right height for checking the inside flappers.

Unfortunately, I have to pull out the big ladder as the slides are way too tall to get on either my 2' or 4' ladders. I need to be up about 8-10' so the folding extension is the only way.

If it wasn't so danged bulky and hidden in the front, it wouldn't be so bad.

I use the 2ft step ladder from the inside.

Ahhh. Inside. That makes sense. I could do all the slide but the bedroom. The Seville bedroom runs the bed frame out on the slide so it makes it doubly difficult.



You got to love the engineers on these things. If they had to either fix or use them, the design might be a bit different.

You might try looking at one of those telescoping ladders. I bought one last year for the very reason you authored this thread, and to remove debris from the roof etc.

It was on sale somewhere for less than $85.00, weighs about 25 lbs, and collapses to about 30" high, 15" wide and 4" thick, I wouldn't be without it.
