I typically use a step ladder to go as high as possible then use maybe top 2 rungs to access the roof.

I'm pushing 270# & go up the ladder onto to my roof regularly, so I wouldnt hesitate to go on the roof.

The Rushmores were/are built in the same factory...

The Rushmores were/are built in the same factory as the Redwoods & they are built with aluminum truss roofs on 16 -24" centers, so I think it would be a safe bet the Rushmore is the same.
