I use the 4X4 like Old Farmer but I have a bar wood clamp. It works great and cost less than 20 bucks for the pair.

I'll try the one this weekend and if it still isn't good enough I'll get the second one.

Thanks Lloyd I imagine you saved some of us from wasted trip. Best to check the local hardware you originally suggested.

The X-Chocks are NOT for holding the trailer while hitching/leveling/etc. I used the regular X-chocks for years and recently bought the extended version for the new trailer.
I noticed a small warning in the packing material and called Norco for clarification. They state the X-chocks are only for stabilizing the trailer from rocking, not for holding it in place. You must still use wheel chocks while hitching/unhitching.

Was there any reason stated that they won't hold the trailer? I guess I don't understand their thinking on that one. Unless its just the wide stance they're meaning.
Reason I'm questioning, is when I have mine in place, I don't remove them until I'm hooked up. I feel they are just about another set of brakes.

Never cared for the X-Chocks. Poor surface area on tire. I prefer these:
<t></t><table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="90%"><t><tr><td valign="top" width="296"><div align="center">
</td>
<td height="202" valign="top" width="386">DELUXE TIRE LOCKING CHOCK</span>
BAL Model 28005</span>
Better control of amount of force between tires and has bigger pads against tires.
</td></tr></t></table>

Basl 2805 is definitely a better system, but at about $50 each and you should use two, I like Old farmers design.

I built some very similar to Old Farmers, but used a 1/2" threaded rod in place of the load binder. Took a ton of the fore/aft movement out of the trailer. I also question the reasoning of the warning? If you're essentially locking the tires together you would think it would be a sufficient parking brake, IMO.

Have a pair and loved them on the old camper...the new one with the wide "stable" stance is to far apart to use them.

For the money I like Old Farmers idea. I think that is a great idea and have some old 4x4s stored that would be perfect. I am not pleased with the shifting/rocking I have with chocks alone. The load binders are cheap at just about any farm store. Thanks for sharing Old Farmer. I am going to try it.

I was looking at some load binders today. They were too big. Then got to thinking whether or not this would work with the wide stance? Any thoughts?

there are a few different styles of x-chocks.e-bay is a good source as well as most camper dealers. I have them and really like them. helps stabilize camper and is also another form of security. mine have a pad lock on them. helps deter theft of your camper. or at least slow them down
