2nd Battery

Has anyone installed a 2nd battery in order to have more amps, to stay longer while boondocking? Would this be a good idea or not. Appreciate your comments on this idea.

Yes!! Lots of us have done just that. I got rid of the Interstate that came with the rig and installed two Trojan t105 (6volt). Then went the extra step and installed a 135 watt solar panel. It really lengthens the stay for boon docking.

Thanks for the info. Why did you use 2 6vdc vice 2 12vdc if I might ask? What was the cost of the solar?

Two 6v golf cart batteries have way more staying power then two 12v. You can spend just about as much or as little as you want for solar. Depends on how many watts you think you want/need. Here is where I got mine. Take a lok and it will give some idea of cost for the different size panels.

I agree thattwo6v are the best way to go, however because I had access to commercial grade 12v deep cycle sealed glass mattbatteries (no maintenance) I decided to go that

route. I put ina marine style battery selector switch so that I can isolate one running off the other or both if I so desire. Lots of room in the battery compartment for the install.

do the sealed glass matt batteries still need to be vented since they don't emit any fumes?

No, they are sealed.

We have 2 batteries and a solar panel on our Seville. Most of our use is with full hookups, but we certainly appreciate the extra electrical when we do not have hookups. Definitely worthwhile.
