This may me overkill for you, but I found these led strips on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005GL5R56/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i01

I got two of them and ran them in the living room dining room/kitchen area, from the rear to the front where the wall joins the ceiling.
Then I hooked them up to this controller:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004T9T1XA/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00

Gives super lighting, with complete control of the brightness, for a very reasonable cost.
We love the results.

Cliff,
This may be a silly question but can these be used outside, say on the awning? Can they be plugged into 110 or not? It would be nice to have something you could control outside

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,
The ones I used are for indoors. If you want to put them on your awning, use these:
http://www.amazon.com/LEDwholesalers-LED-Flexible-Waterproof-Sleeve/dp/B003G9408K/ref=pd_sim_hi_7

They are, also, 16 feet long (300 LED's), but they are $19 instead of $10.

I haven't used them but here is one comment from someone who did:

I've only had mine installed (self-adhesive backing on the strips) for a short time, but so far I like them a lot.<div ="drkgry">You can get lots more information when you use the links above, plus lots of reviews from folks who have used them.<div ="drkgry">Cliff

PS...I liked them so much, I bought another roll and put them under my counter in the kitchen, and around the back of the stove.
I had, previously, replaced ALL of my incandescent bulbs with 36 led arrays, and liked them, but since I put these in, I haven't used the main lights in the living room/dining room/kitchen, at all.

We replaced all the interior lights with LEDs thatI bought from Ebay. Tried various sizes and brightness. DW did not like the bright 'natural' LED color so I found some that offer 'warm white' that are very close to the incandescent color. Very happy with the result and cost of about $3 or less a bulb.

Cliff;

Can you post some pictures of how you installed your leds? Also, did you run them from a 110 volt or 12 volt source before the controller.

Thanks;

Rod

Rod,

I don't know how to post pics here, but here is a url where I have lots of pics of the LED's.

http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r...ED%20Lighting/

I hooked up directly to the 12 volt system.
You can run them from 110 vac, but you have to buy a transformer to drop it to 12 vdc.

Cliff,
I just ordered to spools and one of the auto-dimmers. Not sure how I'll hook them up...I'm going to wait until the rally in Indiana and ask some of the "old-timers" LOL (I'm a young 65) what their suggestions might be. When it comes to 12 volt I am totally clueless. I have completely wired a whole house in my younger days, but that was 36 years ago...the memories are just that !!! But, this looks like a nice mod. Will keep everyone posted when it's done.

Thanks,
Jim

About 2 years ago, I also swapped out all of my outside clearance lights and tail/stop lights for leds. I really like them...have gotten several comments, from running buddies, that I am much more visible, now.

Cliff,
I'm sure you won't be at the Indiana Rally, but on your photobucket there was what looked to be a wireless controller, and it appears as though it could control 4 different items...is that the case? If so, where did you get that and will it automatically work with the lights I have ordered...I leave on Monday for Crossroads to drop off my unit and then on to NY (sans unit ) but I am having all the lighting shipped to my daughter's house in NY so I have them when I get to the rally. I figure I just might talk someone into helping me install them. If I can do it through the 12 volt system I will do it, otherwise I have ordered the transformer's too. I just hope the DW likes them as much as I do. If this works I will definitely think about using them throughout the unit.

thanks again,
Jim

Jim,
The wireless controller comes with the main controller (and the wireless one is a lot more convienent to use). It only controls one output, but you can hook more than one led strip to it. The numbers 1-4 are presets that you can program to any intensitylevel you want (in addition to the 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% buttons which are preset). There are also "up" and "down" buttons to get the exact intensity you want. Way more controls than needed, if you ask me. Yes, it will work with your lights...you just wire your lights into the main controller unit (the square one with the control knob in the center), hook up 12V+ and 12V- into the controller, and you are good to go. I tapped into a regular 12V light fixture near where I wanted the controller to live.
I ran the strips from each side of the RV into the controller, and then put a toggle switch on the strip onone side. That way, I can turn on one side, or both sides. When you turn them down, they make good mood lighting. The url for the controller is in my earlier message (top of page 3 of this thread), but here it is again:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004T9T1XA/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00

Good description and pictures there.
Very simple to install. I just stuck them on the molding at the top of the walls (where they meet the ceiling). The back of the strips are "peel and stick". I added some wires at the rear ends, ran them through the rear cabinets to a meeting point at the center of the coach, mounted the controller there, ran two wires from the nearest 12V fixture, hooked the wires into the controller (screw connectors...very simple), and turned them on.
Total time was less than an hour.

Cliff

We have a 2012 Crossroads Sunset Trail 26BH, I was never happy with the interior lights (incandescent 921 bulbs) and the amount of light that they give off (and it tended to be a yellow colour) the trailer always seems dark.</span><div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">
<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">
The 2 clothes cupboards (1 on each side of our bed) are quite deep and one could never find anything in them if it was beyond the first 6 inches.

The hood over the stove barely had enough light to see what one was doing.

And my wife like to read til the wee hours of the morning and the bedroom lights kept me awake.

The outside storage units had only 1 lamp and camping, trying to fish weinner sticks out or some other items was always a challenge and I was constantly looking for a flash light.

The exterior porch lamps were just not right, and I definitely did not like the tail/brake/signal lamps and felt that the clearance lamps were not very bright and all standard exterior lamps eventually either quite working due to bad connections or end up very dim due to bad ground connections.

In other words I did not like any of the lamps.<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">
<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">I first found some LED lamp strips and glued a strip down each side of the cupboards (4 in total, strip each side =2, X 2 cupboards = 4) and put them on magnetic switches so when you open the cupboard door the lamps come on and go off when one closes the door.<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">
<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">Beautiful, great light and no one can forget to turn a lamp off and kill a battery.<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">
<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">I next glued a strip on the underside of the hood and now we can see what is on the stove or it make a great light in the middle of the night to find medicine or what ever.<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">
<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">Next I started to search for replacement lamps for all of the lights in the trailer and I finally found them, direct replacements for the exact fixtures, pull out the bulb and mount the LED board on the fixture and insert the plug. These are from a company called Command Electronics. This company actually supplies the fixture in our trailer and they make a LED lamp assembly that simply plugs into the fixture and uses double sided tape to hold the board in. Not cheap $23.00 per board<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">
<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">They also have replacement for the accent lights over the table and couch, as well as the one on the wall. I replaced all of these.<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">
<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">Finally I did not like Command Electronics clearance lamps and Brake/Stop/Turn so I searched and found SuperBright and they had what I considered to be very acceptable replacement units (not just bulbs). I replaced all of the exterior lamps. Now I am confident when we are travelling down the road and dusk is just coming on we are visible and at night the lamps look great.<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">
<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">I also added a second set of Brake/Stop/Turn units above the manufacturer ones to increase our visibility.<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">
<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">Now I am happy we have lots of interior light and are very visible on the road.<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">
<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">Finally I added 3 LED lamp units in each of our storage (external) cupboards and there is not enough light to see what one is looking for.<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">
<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">Oh finally I happen to find map reading lamps so I installed them under our sheves on each side of the bed as reading lamps, they are not quite as bright as I would like but they work very well.<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">
<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">All in all these mods were time intensive to install and NOT cheap but it make me and the wife happier so all in all worth it.<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">
<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">The 921 bulls draw about 2.5 Amps individually, produce enough heat to fry an egg the replacement LED lamps draw about 0.3 Amps and run very cool, barley notice any heat when one places a finger directly on the board assembly.<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">
<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">Our trailer has 12 fixtures for general interior lamps therefore old bulbs = lots a power draw on a battery and way to much heat for my liking.<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">
<div style="text-align: left; : rgb251, 251, 253; ">If anyone want more info on what I did post a message and we can get together and discuss in more detail.

;od info.
I, also, replaced all of my exterior lights with LED's (marker, brake, tail). I found them for a very reasonable price at a truck repair place (Freightliner). I was with a friend, having his motorhome serviced, and while looking around the accessories area, found lots of good choices...much cheaper than I had found them anywhere else. They fit exactly where the old ones were, and the entire job took less than a couple of hours (a 4 beer job).
