I have constructed a plate to go in the open utility access port. Previously I just stuck a rag around the hose and cable after hooking up. I always had a concern about some critter gaining access to the trailer through this port so I decided to try to do something about it. I also wanted to get the water connection out of the trailer so that when I unhooked the hose water didn't go everywhere.
I constructed a plate to go in the access hole out of an old plastic office chair pad (any similar type material can be used). I cut off the spikes on the back side to make it smooth and easier to handle. The plate is 4 13/16" in diameter with a slight cutout for the locking flange on the port. The cutout allows the plate to flex and snap into place. I used a 3/4" wood bit to cut the hole for the water hose and a 9/32" steel bit for the cable hole. The plate fits tight and can't be removed without some upward pressure. At this point I am very pleased with the outcome.
If you decide to do this mod make sure that you have 1/2" male/female connectors before you cut your water hose. Most places only carry the 5/8-3/4 and they just won't work.

I don't have pictures but I did a similar mod to mine. I used couplers for both the water and the cable connections.

Excellent, I have the same thing, always worried about critters getting in. Does anyone know if you can get a replacement port cover. I've modified the cover and now have to plug the holes when I'm on the road. I'd like to have another cap the put in when not parked.

I'll be making one of those for our Seville this winter. I had critters come up the water hose and take up residence (at least temporarily). One air mattress and a lot of clean up later, I'm down to just cleaning out the heating ducts and furnace. Needless to say, when I put the piping back, it will be with rigid pipe. I'm plugging any access from the basement to the living space with brass wool and pest block foam.

Hey WoodcarvingGypsy, What's this pest block foam? We live in the country and our cats do a pretty good job but every so often one gets by them. We also use the electronic pest chasers but they only work on 110AC so we're limited to inside with them. I've used great stuff as a pest blocker. Is there something better? thanks

I found the access port with cover ebay about $11.50 item # 161379683569 if anyone is interested. Also found the foam at home depot, thanks for that info

X..I think 4.... I did that mod the first week I got my camper... Poor planning on Crossroads part... Other companies have a seperate compartment, even though the basement door serves double duty as access door for both utility compartment and the basement...

George,
Nice Mod, I will have to try that too. The only thing I would do differently is I would add a quick connect on the bottom to connect to your water supply, that way you don't have to be screwing the hose in all the time. Otherwise, I like it.
Travel well, travel safe,
Jim

Looks like this will be my next mod. I had a motor home that the large black ants accessed the motor home by crawling up the power cord - took me weeks to get rid of all of them.
