I am newbie to 5th wheel towing having just purchased a 30QB. I am wondering about people's experiences with a hitch. Do I need an air hitch for this camper? Is it overkill? Would an air hitch be better than an air pin box? Your knowledge in this area before I purchase a hitch is greatly appreciated. I will be towing with a 2011 Silverado 6.0 engine and 6.6 bed.
Thanks.

A air-hitch is a great feature if you plan on towing. It smooths out the ride quite a bit. I don't think it's an overkill.

I would not think you need an air hitch for a Cruiser but that is my opinion. If you are getting a Patriot package it comes with the Rota-Flex Pin Box and with the Equa-Flex suspension you should be fine.

I have to agree with Keith. I don't think that unit would warrant the extra expense.

Thanks for the feedback. It has also been suggested to go with the rota-flex to save some money.

I agree with the others that an air hitch or pinbox is not a must have. However, with your shortbed truckI would recommend a slider hitch or better yet a sidewinder pinbox.

I'm not familiar with a rota-flex.

Let me throw in my two cents. Like the other's mentioned, 'Not required'.

BUT, in my option, this was one of the best upgrades I did with my unit. We had a regular strightpin box and upgraded to the Trail-Air TriGlide. Best of both being the air bag and slide plate combination. Both the wife and I enjoy our ride much better with this. And not to mention the truck and trailer will have less wear!

Don, Any thing is better then the stock pin box. I upgraded to a Mor/Ryde, and I thought that was the greatest thing since jockey shorts. Plus, it was quite a bit less money then the air hitch. That being said---everybody has to do what "they" think is best for their particular situation.

We don't have one and I could count on one hand how many times I wish I did in the 3-4 years 12-15kmiles we have towed our 30QB. Try it without you can always add one later if you feel so desired. The pin head that is.

I was a newbie myself, just getting a 5th wheel last March. I have the Patriot package with the roto-flex pin box, and I am glad I have it. When I asked my dealer about a sliding hitch, he recommended against it. I have the 6ft. 6in. bed in my GMC. and after one season, I have to agree that he was right. If you have to make some really tight turns backing up, you need it, but for me it would have been a waste. Normally you can put it where you want it by just pulling forward a little bit to get a different line on it, and then backing it in.
