I have a Crossroads CF30QB. Used for the 3rd weekend recently.

When running off the battery and not charging with inverter powered off how long should battery last? It only lasts 5 hours and starts to drain immediately like something is on .

My breakaway switch on the hitch melted it got so hot when nothing was hooked up. Any reason why?

Is the possible reason for draining the battery?

Any help appreaciated

We don't ever dry camp, but 5 hours seems a little premature without knowing what you had on.

Was your breakaway switch pulled / on? Leaving your brakes on?

When you pull the break a way pin it applies the brakes full on. It will draw up to 12 amps which will drain the battery quickly and could cause the contacts to get very hot.

The pin should be in at all times. It should only be pulled out if the trailer seperates accidentally from the truck.

As long as your battery is connected there's power to the breakaway switch. Best bet is to disconnect the battery and unplug shore power. That way every thing is off and no chance of creating a spark or dead short creating other problems.

As for the magnets, they shouldn't be damaged unless you were towing with the breakaway switch activated. Then you would need toremove each brake drum and do a detailed inspection on the braking system.
