Lug nut torque
I have a 2011 Cruiser CF31REP 5th Wheel. It has 2 axles rated at 5200 lbs each, aluminum wheels, the tires are ST235/80R16.
Any suggestion on what my lug nut torque should be?
The reason I'm asking is that the last time I torqued them I did at 100 ft. lbs. Today I went to remove one of the wheels to get a new tire and I broke one of the lugs off. I'm thinking that 100 ft. lbs might be too much.
Looking at the literature that came with the trailer it's telling me to do it in 3 stages. 20-25, 50-60, 90-120.
Any suggestions?
Dave

The lippert manual should be correct except considering past discussions on this, I do mine to 95lbs. So far have not had any lug breaking or nut loosening. I do check them after 25-50 miles if they have been removed. After that, I don't check them again till its time to grease the bearings or rotate the tires.

I was having trouble with the threads pulling. That created problems that I didn't want to have on the road if at all possible. After replacing numerous studs and lug nuts, I have cut back on what I torque. 85# Nothing has come loose so far.

My pop used to say, "Easy there boy...tight is tight."
He's also the same guy who never read a manual or set of instructions his whole life. And I grew up to write manuals and instructions.

The old saying was, and still is as far as I'm concerned.
When all else fails---read the instructions/manual.

Torque mine to 110 ft lbs. I use a "breaker bar" to loose the nuts.

Last time I torqued mine was at 100 ft. lbs. I did use a "breaker bar" to loosen them and that's what happen. I broke 2 of them off of 2 different wheels. I think I'll try 90 ft. lbs.

Does anybody use anti seize on their wheel studs? I've read both pro and con (mostly pro) stories about using it.

I am a big believer anti seize! We recently picked up our new camper and one of the first things that I did was to pull off all of the wheels and put anti seize on all of he wheel studs then reinstalled all of the wheels and torqued the lug nuts to 85 ft lbs. Any nut or bolt I remove I reinstall it using anti seize. Anti seize is not a lubricant and should not effect any torque values. Remember "a quarter turn past snap is to tight!"

The outfit that supplies my tires and performs the wrenching tightens the lugs to 80#. Afterwards I, too, take my spinner lug wrench and tighten them by hand as tight as I can. Checking before each trip and intervals for ease of mind.
