12V problem

I have a 2007 Sunset Trail TT with an electrical problem.

If I'm plugged in to shore power 120V, everything is hunky dory.

If I'm unplugged from 120V, the batteries do not take over to supply the internal 12V circuitry.

Batteries are okay and connections are tight... meter 12 .9V... and the tongue jack that is directly wired to them works fine.

Converter breakers and fuses appear okay.

Other than tearing off the bottom tyvec cover and looking for mouse-chewed wires, is there anything I could be overlooking?

If everything works fine when on 120v then I would think your converter is fine. I would follow the voltage from the battery to the converter and make sure it registers 12v at the converter input. You may have an inline fuse somewhere that is blown.

Thanks, Stan.

I talked to the service scheduler at our local Outdoor World and after I described the problem, he laid some knowledge on me.

I never knew the little wired boxes screwed to the tongue were no-reset circuit breakers. I thought they were timer circuits or solid state relays. Anyway... he told me that they were most likely my problem. They ARE massively corroded.

I'm replacing them now.

There is a silver ,2post auto reset fuse ( I think they are auto ) near the battery screwed to the frame. That will be it .

Yep, that was it. Two of them, in fact.... mounted side by side... both rusted to pieces, inside and out.

Works fine now.

Thanks.

It's great when you finally get a problem figured out.
