2000 watt generator
Hi all, I just purchased a new sunset trail st270bh and was wondering if someone could help me out with the type of generator I should purchase. I mainly need it for the outdoor beer fridge but I may want to fire up the AC unit from time to time. I was hoping to buy the 2000 watt Honda generator, given that it is so light and quiet. Has anyone actually hooked up a 2000 watt generator to this AC unit.
Thanks

2000 watt not enough to start most AC units. I have not pulled the trigger yet since we haven't primitive camped in years but this is the unit I'm looking at...

A Champion company warehouse/repair center is 20 min from my house, so I'm leaning towards their product. You can also find these new, but you run around $1100. These produce clean, quiet power.

I have a Champion 4000W RV generator that I really like. It only weighs 100# and is not much noisier than my Honda EU2000i.

3000 running watts seems to be the required minimum amount if you plan to run your AC.

Good idea to link them together. I never thought about that. I'll probably consider buying two 2000 watt hondas as they are the same price for one 3000 watt. The hondas are pricey but it feels as if you get a lifetime warranty with a honda engine. Anyone ever have a problem with a honda generator?

I also have the Champion 2000w and it's quite and runs nice. It will not run the air unless you get two. One thing I'd did notice with the Champion is that it goes into overload very easy and I have not tried it on my new ST30RE but on my Jayco it did not work well with my microwave.

Hondas
You will find a ton of threads on gennys. I have two honda 2000 watt. I personally wouldn't go any other way. The flexibility they give is great. One is enough for everything but the AC. On my last RV, one honda was enough to run the AC but not on my sunset trail. I did install a hard start capacitor in hopes it would help but it didn't. There is a lot of the web that covers AC's and how hard they are to run depends a lot on temp. and altitude. The higher up you are, the harder it is to start an AC. Same goes for the hotter it is the harder it is to start.

If you are looking at running parallel units, make sure the combined wattage is enough to run your AC (there's about a 1,000 opinions on this and mine is about 3,000 W for a 13,500 BTU AC unit and 3,500 W for a 15,000 BTU).
I'm selling my Honda eu3000is since it's become too heavy (or I've gotten old) at 130 lbs. Looking to get a pair of smaller units.
Some of the less expensive paralleling generators do not double the output. For example, the Champion 2,000 W units combine to make only 3,000 W.

I purchased the Yamaha 3000iseb. This particular one will boost the output for up to 10 seconds after you start your air conditioner. It worked like a charm last year on our Sunset Trail Reserve 30RK. We had no problem running our air conditioner with it. Its quiet too

Can you tell me where you found that. From all I can find 2 of the 2000w inverters combine for 4000. I didn't look at any of the other Champoins, way too noisy.
I use a Yamaha EF4500iES but there are times when all of it isn't needed, fall camping, and I'm looking at a smaller, lighter alternative but want the option to expand if needed.

Add another vote for two honda eu2000 generators. I even added an extended fuel system to run all night. Put the system to the test last week at "camp rest area", where the temperature dipped down to the low 20-degree range overnight. Ran two electric heaters inside and had about 1/2 tank of fuel in the extended tank and was able to run all night with the generators running about 3/4 throttle due to the demand by the electric heaters. With the price of propane I figured I broke even on cost that night....

Hello fellow Albertan ! I have a Yamaha 2400 watt gen. It will run my AC but I have to make sure the AC is turned off prior to starting the gen set, if not the sudden power draw from the AC with trip out the gen. I wish I had gone to a 3000 watt.

Avvidclif,
Sorry about the late reply. I found the total parallel Wattage only in the manuals. If you go to the manufacturers' websites, you can usually download a PDF of the manual. Check the section on paralelling and it will give the maximum Wattage.

So I just got back from my first trip where the AC was actually required and I was able to run my AC unit with the 2000 watt honda generator. I shut off absolutely all electrical devices including unplugging the microwave. I set the fan to low and on auto and it was able to fire up the AC unit. It did not work when I had the fan set on auto. I'm not sure if it work with the champion generators but it may be worth a try.

Yes it is!!
My 2000 Honda won't run the 13,500 AC on mine.

For what it is worth, I purchased the Champion 75531i from Overstock in April and ran a test and it started the A/C and was able to run everything except the water heater.
It was a bench test, but ran it for a good hour. It is 3100 peak, 2800 continuous. I paid $631 with coupon.
