3 wires from trailer to battery

There are 3 wires coming from my gulfstream travel trailer to my battery. They are Red, White, and Blue. The white is the ground and goes to the negative terminal, the red goes to the positive terminal, and the blue I don't know where it goes. I removed the old batteries and installed two new 12 volt batteries wired in parallel.

The red wire has a 30 amp fuse just behind the terminal connection, and the blue has a 30 amp fuse also.

I know just enough about electricity to be dangerous, but the wires are all coming from a junction box under the trailer.

I hope this is enough information for someone to help me figure this out.

Does it go to your break away switch?

I don't think so. I had a break away switch on my older trailer, but only two wires. This has me stumped. I'll try to see if I can post a photo or two. That might help.

I'm new to the forum, and can't figure out how to post photos. I'll work on it.

How to add photos to a post
  • Click reply and scroll down to bottom of text box.
  • Click "go advanced" add text to message window and then scroll down.
  • Click "Manage attachments" A separate window will pop up.
  • Click "browse" Then select the file to be uploaded. Be sure that the photo is appropriately sized. 800 x 600 pixels (or smaller) and no more than 400K is recommended. Forums software will automatically reduce the size, but smaller size photos will upload much faster. You may select several photos to upload at the same time by repeating the last step.
  • Click "Upload" After pics have loaded close the pop-up window
  • Click "submit reply" to mount the text of your message - photos will automatically appear at the bottom of your post.

The blue wire confuses me ,old owner must have had that color wire in his tool box ....is there a battery switch with a knob to turn somewhere...blue could be for battery2 while red could be for battery1. That would only work if the batteries were not hooked parallel.

I am starting to think it might be for the trailer brakes, although I can't imagine why. I am going to disconnect it from the battery and take a test drive. ACheerss long as the white is to negative, and the red is to positive, everything should work, except whatever the blue wire goes to. Thanks for your efforts.

I bought the trailer from a private party. I wasn't smart enough to see what terminal the blue wire was attached to when I installed new batteries. Lesson learned. Cheers
