A few quesions for newbie

Hi,
I picked up my ST 270BH this past weekend. I'm looking through the manuals and forums to just get a general idea of what it is I don't know yet.

Something the dealer stressed is that I go on the roof periodically and check all the seams making sure they are not cracked. He wouldn't show me at the shop on pickup because they said I couldn't go on the roof because of insurance regulations. So I want to go on the roof now and check things out.

1. Is it OK to lean a ladder against the roof or should I use a step-ladder. I don't have a large enough step-ladder right now so that's why I'm asking. I'd need to buy one.
2. What is the name of the stuff that is like caulk (but not caulk) that I should use to 'fix' any cracked seems. I remember reading about it, but I can't remember the name. I think it started with "D".

More questions sure to following over the coming days/weeks/months

Thanks!
Mike

On the roof -- Dicor self leveling.
If you want to lean a ladder against the side, wrap a towel or rag around each leg so it doesn't scratch.
