Atwood Range Top Cover issues

We are on our first trip with the 05 Crossroads Cruiser 28FB. Most everything is working well and the wife's smiling about our investment back into camping.

One problem though, the range top cover will not stay up when folded. The thing seemed clumsy and not well designed from the start and were wondering if those brackets that hold (seem to be bent slightly) are the issue. Anyone had an experience with that and found they needed new parts or some modification?

Thanks.

I had the same issue when the rig was new so I removed it. Maybe not the best solution but it works for us.

It might be somebody tried to put the cover either up or down without raising it all the way up (stretching it out) and then forced it and bent the brackets.
Just a guess.

Removed ours also. Proved too much hassle and wanted to utilize the space on the counter behind the range. Screwed down two small wire baskets, I'm guessing 3" X 8", end to end which hold spices, dish washing liquid, and assorted other stuff. Has worked great.

That's exactly what happened Lloyd. I watched my mom fool with it to check it out. And just as you said didn't pull it right and forced it down to try to close it. Looks like if those brackets are bent even slightly the function to stay open gets messed up.

Coastn, your idea is looking good. The wife found some good cover alternatives also so thanks!

Bruce-

Forgot to mention what we did to replace the cover. Got a plastic/nylon (?) cutting board from Walmart which fits nicely over the burners and attached the rubberized stuff used for lining cabinets with double sided tape to one side. Rides well and doesn't fall off even on bumpy roads. Sets aside easily, adds that much more counter space and very cost effective.

I showed the wife how ours works when we first got it. I knew if I didn't it would end up broken.
