I have a set of melamine dishes. They are light-weight and strong. You are not supposed to use them in the microwave however.

X2 on the Corelle plates and bowls. We use some rubberized shelving material between them and have never had a broken one yet.

We've picked up various sets of melamine plates at Target & Wal-Mart over the years.

We also stock paper plates for longer boondocking trips when we don't want to waste water on dishes.

Thirdly we have a big pack of good disposable plates and foil pans for potlucks. We seem to have a lot of potlucks with the folks we camp with.
