How do campgrounds determine RV length
Trying to find out what RV measurement is used by campgrounds and parks to determine maximum towable RV length allowed. I thought I found the info a while ago but I can't locate it. If maximum length allowed is 24 feet, how is that measured? Rear bumper to ball? How about if a fifth wheel is 24 feet from rear bumper to tow vehicle's rear bumper. Thanks for any help!!

Ask them how 'they' define it seems like 'they' have different definitions for it !
I would think it means overall length from tip to tail since they know how long their sites are and what can fit (or what would be too long to make some of their turns without taking down trees, etc...)

I'm with Walt. I always give the campground the total length of my 5er + a couple of feet. That way I have a better chance of NOT being shoe-horned into a site. I also make sure I give them the number of slides on my 5er.

Don't forget that it is more than the length of the sites.
You have to be able to get to the sites and get into them, too.
Some campgrounds have corners so sharp and short that a Yugo would have trouble negotiating them.

While this discussion of camper length is going on, I thought all of you might "enjoy" this video of what happens when the driver does not read signs.

Heck, we were in PA at Pine Grove Furnace SP this summer and can tell you that there are some roads like that in PA for sure.

Same here...I always tell them 35ft and have never been in a campground that I couldn't fit or corner easily. That being said, I have been told by a few SP's that we wouldn't fit, so we didn't try.

my TT is 30 ft bumper to ball (it is a 26BL). I usually list it as 31 or 32 ft after being shoved into a site that was 30 ft front to back once. The answer is there is not a standard answer. I usually allow a couple extra ft for maneuverability. knowing I have longer than average truck I also have been known to let a CG know I am 53 ft front bumper of truck to rear bumper of TT, that helps keep me out of some tighter spots too. Remember though that bigger does limit some of the nicer spots at some campgrounds. I would rather have a comfortable spot and walk to see the view then worry about being shoved to tightly in a spot.

while the girl narrating was annoying and clearly a bad judge of length (no way that is a 25' 5er) it was interesting watching them work him out of that tight spot. I hope he got it out the rest of the way ok. Sadly I also couldn't help but wonder if it was someone I might have met over the years on one of my many forums.

Aileen, I was making note that it was a Montana with a bike of some kind on the back and a Chevy TV. I also wondered about the road ahead as one curve usually begets another curve.

anaro - I too had some thoughts about the 'brilliance' of the narration and the guy taking over... (learned a long time ago that the loudest voice is not always the best voice to listen to !)
More than a few in that video didn't have a clue about the swing, etc.. of a 5er
but they did get it out and the owner left quickly to limit the embarrassment !!! poor guy !

I will have to view video at home...
I always round up the length. Our old Zinger was 28'-6" bumper-hitch, but I said 30ft. in when using the KOA website or calling a campground. Best to tell "them" it is longer then end up in a tight spot.
