Registering Truck and Trailer in Ontario

Ontario owners please. My truck is due for annual registration . Every year there is the same question. Do I need to register and pay for combined weight of truck and 5th wheel or truck only. I can't seem to get a definite answer. What has your experience been? Thanks...Al

Personal use only is usually exempted from the weight requirements other than proper licensing, eg. Class G for over 4,600kg. Hopefully we have an Ontario owner here who can help. In Sask, we state towed vehicle weight when renewing but since it is personal use only (not business or commercial) there is no extra charge.

Hello from Ontario...
Not sure with your truck, cause I don't know what it is, but I have a 2500 Dodge heavy duty, and have never been asked about weight when renewing the sticker (twice since I've owned the trailer). I don't have the yellow sticker on the windshield either.

Registering truck and 5th wheel

Hi My truck is a 2005 Dodge 2500 diesel. The 5th wheel is a 2011 325MK. Every year I get an emissions test and take it to service Canada. At the same time the subject of the 5th wheel comes up. I was told a few years ago that the truck must be registered to include the weight of the trailer......about 18,000 lbs. I can't find anybody who can say for a fact that this is the law. My neighbor just registered his and was told that "it's 'probably' not necessary to include weight of 5th wheel" so he didn't. I am trying to find clarification. What do you guys do? Thanks...Al

Al, I read your Ontario licensing regs this morning and it only referred to vehicles used in business or commercial capacity needing special registration for towed weight. I'd rely on CampMackay's experience.
