screws

There are a lot of screws on the outside of our trailer. Some hold on the fenders (for lack of a better word), some hold the cowling on, and some the frames around the slides. While we were lubricating one of the slide seals, a screw on the slide frame broke off. I noticed a lot of other screws on the trailer are rusting.

Does anyone else have this problem? I suggested to my husband that we take one out, determine the size, and buy a whole lot of similar ones but of non-rusting material and replace every one we can.

Have not noticed the rusting, but I was missing a lot of screw heads. You can replace them with stainless steel screws. You can spray the heads before you install them. I found some at Lowes. It might be tough to remove the old screws with breaking off the heads. The factory always over torques them.

Our 05 screws are steel with painted heads. They are rusting from weather as well as the effects of being in contact with the aluminum framing. I replace with stainless steel whenever I can. At least then you won't have rust streaks on the unit. You can also find painted head aluminum screws, but may have to special order them and be careful not to over torque when installing.

I've noticed that the screws on my rig are all square drive. I found that unusual since torx drive screws seem to be more common on other vehicles. Any idea why Crossroads uses square drive screws?

I think they are a combination of square #2 (called #2Robertson in Canada) and star ,(Phillips.).

Maybe that is why they over torque them?

We have had some heads pop off too. Mostly on slide trim.

Most are square drive that I have seen. 3/4 inch and 1 1/4 inch stainless is what I replaced mine with on the 30 SK I used to own.
