Slide Topper
Hi all,
The new TT I'm getting in April will have a slide and I think I would like to get a topper for it. Any advise on the need for one, reliable brand, or anything else I might want to know would be appreciated.

If you're also using your rv in windy areas without a lot of trees, DO NOT get them. If you're always in the trees without the wind, they are an absolute must. I'm saying they will drive you crazy in the wind, they will flop, stretch, hold water, & keep you awake a night. They keep the slides a bit cooler & look very nice, but aren't designed for windy areas.

Had the dealer put ours on before it left his shop. I will never be without one. I am not sure of the brand of ours.

I vote for the toppers also.
All the benefits of what they do, far out weigh any negative things about them. I have only experienced one time where the wind got ours to flapping to the point of it being a concern and annoying.
As far as getting rain water on them and causing a big sag---yes, but all you have to do is pull the slide in some and run it back out if bothers you.

You should have them put on at the factory, price is minimal. I Feel the positives outweigh the negatives

I've been throwing the idea around myself. When I picked up my trailer I had to immediately haul it to a job I was working on, so no time to add accessories. They told me it would cost around $600.
I wanted one to keep the top of my slide clear. I keep a 6 ft ladder with me to check my slide before I pull it in and I haven't found anything on it yet.

We had ours added About 8 months after we took delivery and will always have them put on our future RV's... Makes a difference with keeping it cooler and obviously the rain off the slide. Although our dealer installed them - they agreed to match camping worlds labor rate and at the time camping world was running a special of around $75 each so was a great deal for us.

I had mine added when I bought the camper. I wouldn't go without one again.

I had toppers on my previous 3 trailers and they were fine. I do not have them on this new one and have no noticible difference in heat in the trailer with or without. It can get awfully warm here in socal. If you are in a heavily treed area they do help to keep leaves and branches off the top of the slide.

Are toppers manually retractable for say high winds? Any tricks of the trade to keep the water from pooling during a rain storm.

All I have seen are permanently attached to the side of the trailer and the slide.
You can place an inflatable toy (beach balls), between the top of the slide and the topper, to keep the water from pooling. This also helps with flapping in the wind.

Once toppers are installed the only way to bring them in are with the slides. Some people have also made a teepee out of 1/2" pvc that slides under the topper and sits on the top of the slide. I have had them for 16 yrs on 3 different trailers and had no problems. If they are adjusted right there is little pooling. You can lift the front of the yrailer up high enough for the water to run off or get on the roof with a broom prior to bring in the slides. Make sure to stand back when the slides come in if you have not removed the water first or you will get a bath
