Wasp Nest - Fridge Vent

Hi,

I see some Wasp's hanging out by my Fridge vent. They are also flying into it so it appears I have nest.

I'm pretty sure they are Mud Daubers (see photo) - which I believe are harmless for the most part. They don't bother us at all.

I'm considering waiting until winter to remove them when they are dormant but I might remove them now if it's not too difficult.

I'm sure others have had this.

Spraying poison into my Fridge vent doesn't seem like the best option.

Once I get rid of them I'll put a screen over that vent.

What did you do to remove them?

Thanks!
Mike

I know what I would do if it were mine. (not telling you to do like wise)
I would make sure the LP was turned off and all lines emptied out. Just in case there was a leak. Which I don't have.
Then after it got good and dark out, I would get my little butane bottle with the torch on it. Get it fired up, open the door real easy. and point the flame at their comb/nest. it won't take much time or heat to burn the wings off them. Then just knock the nest out of there and step on them.
It doesn't take much to burn the wings off any bug that flies.

I always remove then vents when I get another camper. I then install stainless fine screen (like screen door screen). I use silver hvac tape to secure the screen to the back of the vents. I also do this to the water heater vent and the furnace vents.

I just had a nest of wasps that was under the front corner of my 5th wheel. I sprayed with the normal HD spray and they acted like I sprayed them with water. Not 1 died! I thought maybe it was because the can was old. I had not used that spray can for 2 years because I started a pets service that got rid of my problem. Bought a new one and same results. Wifes uncle said to try Raid. Emptied a whole can and not 1 death! I was getting concerned. Went back to HD and was shown a higher level of their spray. Bought 2 cans and finally got results. The nest went from under my trailer up into the bay that holds the propane bottles.

Would it be possible for them to gain entry into the RV through the outside Fridge vent where they appear to be nested?

I don't think I've ever removed that panel that covers the fridge vent. I *think* it's the fridge vent actually. Maybe that is to access the heater? I don't really know.

I'd rather not kill them if I can help it, they aren't bothering anyone and Mud Daubers are known to eat Black Widows as well as other pests.

I was thinking I'd wait until it got cold and open the panel and them remove the nest once they vacate it.

Thanks for the responses.

Mike

We have a small pond so we deal with this all the time. I just take a putty knife and scrape the mud nest off then throw it in the yard. They do seem to help with spiders so i try not to kill them. The "box" that the refrigerator is in is sealed from the outside so no they can not get in to the rest of the camper.

Part or my spring de-winterizing is to remove the vents and take air and blow out the fins - coils - burner and the whole area behind the refrigerator also check for any thing affecting the flow of air over the coils.

You can buy screens for the water heater and furnace to keep things out of them but i am not aware of screens for the refrigerator vents so you may have to fabricate your own.

Those don’t look like dobbers we have around here. Ours are solid black. Never seen them cluster like that either.
