Learned something from my indep. diesel mech
I have an 05 Duramax diesel and starting about 4 - 6 weeks ago I noticed a "pinging" noise and it was getting gradually worse and now I noticed a loss of power (slight). I took it to a guy that has 15 years working on diesel engines. He said my injectors were carboned up pretty bad and that was the culprit. My "balance rates" were way off because of this. He also said I did not have that many hours on the motor to start having injector issues yet. He gave me this bit of advice I wanted to pass along. He said all diesels need to be run a bit harder every now and then to keep this issue from occurring. Not to drive it like you stole it but to every now and then put you foot in it when you are driving it, NOT when it is in park or neutral. he also said adding a fuel supplement to them with the low sulphur fuel we can only get is something that is very important to extend the life of the injectors and especially the injector pump. A good quality diesel fuel additive (do the research) will work just fine.
Just my story I thought I would share with everyone pulling their rigs with a diesel.
Thanks
