Yes, have contemplated a a cummins (fummins) swap when I had my 98 EB Expedition. This is very interesting, wonder where it will sit price point compared to the F250 diesel.
Specs here, not sure of accuracy but if they are right its pretty reasonable:

Personally, I believe it's going to depend on your needs. I bet it will have higher torque, but lower HP than the current 3.5L ecoboost. But now added weight, so payload is going to go down. Now with all the diesel regs there are more parts to go wrong or break. If your towing a trailer daily or several times a week yes I'd go with the diesel, but for most of us, we are weekend warriors in the summer. Personally, unless the numbers are jaw dropping in terms of power, I'll stick with the 3.5L if were talking half-tons.

I keep hearing late October, to even into early next year before we'll see this option in the 2018 model year. IE, they will be churning out 5.0's, 3.5's, 3.3's, and 2.7's before we see the 3.0L diesel available as an option for the truck. I'm excited to see the torque/HP numbers for it, as well as the upgraded 5.0L coyote to see if they up the trailer towing capacity on it.

Towing numbers
I've been watching this close online since the announcement and tease late last year. The closest thing to release date and real numbers is Q3 2017 and talking about 13-14K towing capacities. We'll see.
As an aside, I looked at upgrading my 2011 ecoboost to a 2017 F250 Gasser. I was surprised how close my power numbers (HP/Toque) were on my 150 to the gasser 250.

That would be pretty impressive #s for towing for sure. Can only hope.
I found the same thing when comparing Hp and torgue between those two.

For me, it's a tough sell to move to diesel from the Ecoboost. The additional operational costs and servicing makes the fuel savings a wash if you only tow a few times a year or go on shorter trips.
Also, those higher tow ratings are great, but the hitch weight limit is still going to be problem for travel trailers and bed/rear axle capacity for 5vers plus it is a light truck to begin with. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't think of towing a 13K trailer.
I think that diesel would be for shorter but heavier car/horse/equipment trailers, not RVs.

I agree with Mark. I wouldn't be half surprised if they only offer the diesel option if you get the max payload package which will up the GVWR. I guess what would worry me would be the added tongue weight for heavier trailers, and the axle's only being semi-floating, as opposed to full floating as are in the 3/4 ton trucks and up.

There is ability to tow and ability to stop. I learned that the hard way when I was younger and stupid.

The ecoboosts hands down have the power to pull it, the only thing making me want the gasser 6.2 when it's time to get rid of my Blue 2010 F-150 is the added weight, beefier brakes, and more payload.
I'm sorry but 13K with a half ton? Yup, the engine might pull it, but that trailer is going to pull back driving down the road!

I'm a firm believer, if they rate it for "said" amount of weight, it will be safe to pull/haul that amount of weight.
But, none of this has anything to do with when the new f150 diesel will hit the market, or any new news on it. So, it's getting kind of off topic.

Rumor has it that the Ford is going to suspend the release of the 1/2 ton diesel due to the EPA's continued effort to target diesels. VW was first and now the Ram Eco-Diesel is under fire. GM was looking at putting a diesel in the Colorado, but not sure where that stands.
I currently own a Ram Mega Cab 2500 HD with a 6.7 Cummins and the increased maintenance costs are a killer. A DIY oil, oil filter and fuel filter (x2) change is $250. Dealer will stick it to you for around $500. I put on around 17,000 miles and I am barely above the break-even point in costs. Is it worth it? To me, yes. A lot of people I know are switching over to the 2500 with Hemi 6.7 gasser.
As to the reported towing numbers for the diesel 1/2 ton.....I highly question those.

The 2.8L Duramax diesel has been available in the Colorado and the Canyon since the 2016 MY came out.

Still only tows only around 7700 , right?
Neat truck but I can't see it being useful in the travel trailer market.
Wish they had that out when I was in that mid size truck time of my life.
The Tacoma was king but was a gas guzzler

It would be okay for a small TT or a popup. My sister has a crew cab Canyon with the V6 engine, but she doesn't have a camper.
I've never heard anyone who had a Toyota brag about the gas mileage.
