Look on the side of your tires for the speed rating. It might be interesting.

I drove all 2500 models out there! The Ford rode a little rougher , the Dodge just was not comfortable inside, and the GMC rode very smooth. Ford has had so many different diesel motors I can't count. Dodge is still looking for a transmission to stay behind the Cummins. The Dmax /Isuzu is pretty much the same motor from the beginning. To bad you can't get the Cummins with the Allison trans. Also I believe that all the big three build great products. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the big three.
P.S. do some research and see which manufacture sells the most diesel transmission power trains for commercial applications.

The Cummins engine with the Aisin transmission in a Ford frame. Now that's a TRUCK.

I pull with a 2001 GMC 2500HD with the 8.1 and allison trans.

I bought it new has 215,000 miles. Have been very happy with it.

Always serviced and maintained at proper intervals.

No problems.

Well the new Ford 6.7 diesel in the 2011 up Super Duty with 6 speed TorqShift transmission erases the Navistar era of epic fails. The last two models of transmission from Ford (I've had both the 5 + 6 speed) have been bulletproof. Now the 6.7L turbo diesel completes the combo. Prior to the new transmissions introduced in 2004 for the diesels and the new 6.7L in house diesel in 2011, I would have built a truck with a Ford body, Cummins engine and Allison transmission. Now I have the complete package wrapped in my favourite body style and I already have 97,000 miles on it!!

And Chev/GM still haven't figured out that you can't put a round tire in a square hole - try to upsize your rubber on a Chevy and you have to install a lift kit!

I did find out that with the 20" alloy wheels , there is only 1 tire that is manufactured with the factory size. It took the dealer 4 sets of tire before they found 1 set that didn't shake you out of the truck at 70 mph.

You are correct. I think the speed limit in Texas is 65 for vehicles towing trailers

I think Cliff was referring to what your trailer tires are rated for as far as speed. Every trailer tire I have seen is stamp 65 mph max.
With the junk trailer tires out there, I can certainly see why.

We tow our 26ST reserve RB with a 2013 Ford F250 quad cab. We did had the dual cam sway control and weight stabilization system. Seems to pull just great.

Ditto

The D-Max is a beast of an engine . I have EFI Live and a Banks CAI - the truck has zero difficulty hauling my 335s..... But, I do like the Cummins as well...

I have a 2010 with a 6.4 diesel. That thing is a horse when pulling. With that said at 175,000 miles the high pressure fuel pump went out. Then at 180,000 miles both turbos had to be replaced. As anyone who has had a ford with this problem knows the cab has to be lifted from the frame for these repairs. Im a ford man all the way but I sure would like to find about a 2002 with 30,000 miles and a 7.3 engine!

On the new 6.7L Ford, the cab doesn't need to be lifted to do either of those repairs and the torque is almost double that of at 2002 and a much better transmission. Technology and reliability is no comparison to the old 7.3L. I agree the 7.3 was pretty bulletproof and cheaper to maintain but the advances in a decade are very significant.

I had a 05 dodge hemi that I pulled a 30' tung pull It did good. We loved camping so much bought 2011 F250SD it pulled it like a breeze. So now I just bought a 41' toy hauler, haven't picked it up yet but think it will do fine. Added air bags and air intake just to be sure.

Anyone know who needs an 08 Jayco Jay Flight bunk house? It's in great condition. Located in Austin TX

The correct answer to the OP poll and question is....

We all tow with what works for us...
each of us have different needs and likes,
so thankfully the gooberment still allows SOME differences in the offering by the big three (so far!)
therefore we can choose what we want - even in the color we want !!!

Better & Better

Went with a GMC 2011 2500HD 6.6L Duramax. Good ride and quiet. All of big 3 make solid trucks. I do like the fact that the Duramax has been improved and strengthened until now in the 5th generation. A solid motor with the solid Allison behind it. The engine that Gale Banks (Banks Power) chose to build into his own custom version using the LML Duramax (the current 5th generation).

Love my '08 Duramax/Allison Silverado 2500HD. Added rear air bags to bring it up to one ton. Handles great, lot of power, quiet, fast with plenty of power when you are pulling and trying to merge unto freeway.
MPG is wonderful not pulling 18-21, pulling 10-13.5, and this truck has a very good resale value. Added a 51 gallon reserve fueltank/toolbox combo which has saved me several times from trying to find fuel while pulling our Fifth Wheel.

2018 Dodge Ram 2500 Power Wagon 6.4L Hemi - gas. Whether pulling 4000lb. boat, or a 9500lb trailer, just hums on down the road. Gas mileage ain't good while towing and not great while cruising.
