I believe on new ST 20CK has corian counter tops. We have noticed in our first few trips that these counters, while really nice, tend to scratch really easy. Anyone else experience this? solutions?
Thanks

My new Sunset trail had scratched countertops on delivery but never noticed until I got home. There is instructions in your manual on how to get rid of them.

we had corian in our house, we even had the sink made of corian, and it was an expensive mistake, it really is nice looking but really easy to scratch, the company we bought from came out once a year and the sanded out all the scratches and resealed the whole countertop, when they were done it looked like new, we really just got tired of screwing with them and had everything replaced with quartz, now we don't have to do anything...just wipe it off, the corain is nice but you need to be really careful it does scratch real easy, and it's also easy to stain, the good thing is that it does clean up and it does look like new after....we just got tired of the screwing around...

So what does the manual say to do? Is this a real bad issue everyone experiences? I am starting to regret ordering a trailer with the counter top if this is the case. Upon inspecting the show model trailers the counter tops in the ST looked to be very durable??

That's the first thing that my wife complained about on our first trip out in the new camper. We have a 2012 ST30RK, so after a few trips out we made a list of items to get fixed. When we took it in the service tech told us that they would buff the scratch out for us and he acted like they see it all the time. When we got it back and all the little things fixed the counter looked great. So we just decided not to put anything down without something underneath. It does tell us in the owners manual how to take care and remove scratches .

I didn't like the look of ours when we picked up the trailer, I used automotive polishing compound and a power buffer on them and then put two coats of top end automotive carnuba wax on them and they look great and have some protection now against scratching.

Speedster,
Your solution of using carnuba wax sounds like good protection. Is there a particular brand of top end carnuba was you would recommend? Thanks.

Speedster I too would like to know if there is a special brand of wax you used. And did you use the power buffer on that also?
thanks,
Jim

The Carnuba wax I used was I did not use the buffer to apply it but diduse it to put a high gloss shine on the counter top after letting it dry and wiping off the heavy wax with a rag...
Put two coats on that way....

Yes we have experience that too. I have to keep a towel on the counter with the coffee pot on it. Also our sind rusts all the time, I thought it was stainless steel, but I guess not.

Let us know how you make out, the polishing compound took all the scratch's out on ours. If it is really bad you might need to use some 800 -1200 grit sand paper first before polishing but even on a couple bad ones we had the polishing compound took them outwith some buffing...

When we picked up our 2012 ST25RB, my wife noticed many scratches that we missed seeing when we were first looking at Crossroad models in dealer lot. Our trailer isat dealers right now having few issues looked at including the scratched countertop & tabletop. We were told that Crossroads has a "kit" they would be providing dealer to "buff out" scratches. Once we pick it up I am really curious to see how the counter & tabletops look. If we're not happy with the results we will be asking them to replace it entirely. I really hope that it doesn't come to that though. I really don't like the idea of them removing & replacing countertop for fear, it may end up being worse.

Tony & Nancy,
There have been a few postings on here relative to the Corian Countertops. Some of the postings said when they took their units back to the dealers all they did was use a polishing compound to take out the scratches and it worked. We too noticed some "scratches" albeit little ones. On one of the postings here one of the members said he used the polishing compound, then 2 coats of Carnuba Turtle Wax using a bugging machine. Today I did my countertops and the sink too and they came out quite nice, very shiny, the proof of how well it works will be in the future I guess. Just a little hint for you.
Jim

Hi Jim, I did read where one of the members used the "Mothers" polishing compound.....but since this is a brand new trailerIopted to have the dealer take care of it, for fear of me making it worse, thus voiding the warranty. We noted the scratches (some pretty deep ones too) when picking up trailer, and salesperson noted on both my contract copy & his about the scratches. I think personally they were caused by the bbq box staples. I recall seeing that box on tabletop when we went back for a 2nd look before we bought it. They probably slid box on both counter & table causing the scratches. Glad to hear they can be buffed out though. I'm sure the wife & I will be creating our own signature scratches over the years.
Happy Camping!

Tony,
Our unit is brand new too...there were no scratches when we picked it up but after loading it, and putting in a "toaster oven" we noticed a scratch. Seems one of the rubber legs fell of the toaster oven and as we slid it into the corner, well, bingo. After reading Speedsters post I decided to try it and it appears to work well on small, fine scratches...and water just beads up too I will keep an eye on it and if necessary do it again. And as someone else mentioned if the scratches are deeper you can use a 1200 grit sandpaper...you actually use that on your car windshield before using Rain-x
Good luck,
Jim

We put non skid placemats with the nonskid coasters on the table with one under my silverware holder, salt, pepper and sugar, looks nice but if we play a game besides cards I put a tablecloth on my table.
I bought one of those heat resistant mats with a nice design on it to put on my stove when it is covered and use that to place pots, pans and hot items on to protect the counter tops. Though when we took it in for repair, the serviceman not thinking put all his tools on the countertop but it is a camper, but the polishing looks like a good choice, we will try it.
Our old pop up had laminate countertops and they were all warped when we bought it, as they had left the vent open and water had soaked into them, what a mess, had to have it all replaced so a few scratches are not hard to live with.
