We replaced the plywood piece that was covering the water heater in the cabinet with an oak door. I remember reading some time ago about someone doing this and I was wondering what color stain and the brand of the stain and where you got it, to match or as close as possible a match with the original doors and cabinets.
Calliopeguy, thanks I called the Lowe's that wehave and they cannot computermatch stains. Told me to bring in a door and they will hold it up to some stained boards and match it by sight that may work.
It is very hard to get an exact match. I used FlectoVarathane premium golden pecan #209 and it matches very well. Once it was completely dry I used Flecto Diamond Finish satin. The diamond finish is water base and does not yellow the stain down. All in all it turned out really well.
The replacement doors were oak.I bought a few doors at a surplus place called Bontragers RV Surplusin White Pigeon, MI. The matched up really well and there is almost any size and shape. A 18 X 24 oak door was $2.00. I know everyone that is going to the Factory Rally will be going there again, it is only 20 min away.
