how do i reconnect the breakaway cable brakes?

I went to get my trailer and found the breakaway cable for the brakes lying there on the ground detatched. Brakes are locked up. I cant figure out how or where to reattach it. It's just a black plastic pin-type of fitting. it appears to be a "male" fitting in need of a "female" but i can't find one. (Much like my personal life but that is a post for another forum.) Please advise!

It will be on the tongue of a travel trailer, and right behind the pin box on a fifth wheel.

Don't know your model, but mine is a silver metal box mounted on the Pin Box next to where your Umbilical cord comes down out of the trailer for the truck hookup. gotta 1/2" square hole in the end pointing towards truck. that's of course thinking u have a 5ver.

Just push it back into the hole in the box that is mounted on the pin box. Keep in mind that since voltage to the brakes is provided by your onboard battery it might be run down and in need of charging.

You didn't say which unit you have. A couple of folks provided info on the FW types. If you have a TT then it will be inside the frame of the tongue behind he tongue jack and possibly under the propane. It might be a black plastic box with an aluminum front and belly.

Little black box smaller than a cigarette pack facing forward on the outside of your A Frame behind the tongue with a couple wires coming out the back. There will be a round hole facing forward - just put the pin on the end of the cable into the round hole and turn it until it pushes in - you will hear a small snap when it engages. Then you are good to go.

Something's wrong. It doesn't just fall out by itself. You should check to be sure it locks in the connector so it's secure.
The last thing you want is it "falling" out at 55 mph.

The other thing...if you don't know what it is, a critical part of safe towing, have you done your homework necessary to tow properly?

Yes you are so correct. It does not just fall out. And He should know what and where. Your point is well made.

Happy
When you push the plunger back in to the break-away, and you make sure your battery is charged. You should test the break-away to make sure it is working correctly...

Smile Thank you all!

Really appreciate all of you who replied. Collectively you saved my weekend camping with my 9 year old son. Wouldn't have happened without y'all so thanks very much for taking some time to share your tips.
